It looks like you are going through Jackson, Mississippi, so be on the lookout for an 1861 3" Ordnance Rifle by Phoenix Foundry at 654 Main Street.  Trunnion marks are supposed to be visible.

With a slight divergence off the interstate you can see a very historic site of a major ordnance building foundry for the Confederacy and a double banded Brooke Rifle that was built there.  Take the State Route 80 exit about twenty miles after Meridian, Mississippi and go about 35 miles due east to Selma, Alabama.  There you will find the most famous gun foundry in the Confederate states outside of Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia.  There is a giant lathe there outside the only foundry building still standing at the site of the Selma Confederate Naval Ordnance Works run by CSN Commander, Catesby ap Roger Jones through the CS Navy’s Office of Ordnance and Hydrography Commanded by CSN Commander John Mercer Brooke in Richmond.  There many heavy Naval and seacoast artillery pieces were turned out from 1862 until the end of the war.  This site can be found at the intersection of Water Street and Sylvan about five blocks east of Broad Street which is Route 80, 22 and 8.  AND nearby on Broad street, in the middle of the block between Dallas Ave. and Selma Ave. is the Brooke naval rifle which was served at the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864 onboard the Confederate Ram, CSS Tennessee.  The only crewmen killed on the Tennessee were serving this gun at the time of their deaths.  Look for a large VII on one of the trunnion faces which designates the weapon’s caliber.  This gun has also been reported at City Hall, so know where both locations are.  After seeing all this history and a very rare cannon, you continue east on Route 80 to Montgomery, Alabama and then north to Birmingham, AL on Interstate 65.

There is also Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  If you can stay somewhere secure and detach your travel trailer, I would see this very famous spot featuring the location of the Battle Above the Clouds.  I would NOT drive up that road with any size trailer.  The view from the top is spectacular, truly magnificent the way the river meanders through the City of Chattanooga and the topography is just about strait up and down.  It’s almost unbelievable that some field pieces were dragged more than half way up the mountain.  Out of time; I will check for others tomorrow.

Chickamauga is right off the Interstate outside Chattanooga. Nice display of different field pieces at Park headquarters and an outstanding collection of small arms 1600 ~ present also, several hundred in all.  A must do if you can swing a couple of hours.
Knoxville where I am doesn't have much but I'll buy lunch/dinner if you in town when I'm off (3/7 3/8 3/9).

Yep correct. Tomorrow-Tuesday Vicksburg.

We are going to stay at the  Ameristar  RV park.

We will be staying two nights.  Tour the  U.S.Cairo Wednesday. Start on the road Thursday.  Overnight in Chattanooga area Thursday.

Tonight we are in the North Little Rock Riverside RV park.   Will never stay here again.  Poor signage directing you to the check in office, rude unfriendly staff and the worst internet connection I have ever seen any where I have traveled in entire world...it is even worse than when you use up your wild blue bandwidth.

BrokenPole, Little Seacoast  send me a PM with contact info.

Tim Friday night projected stop is Roanoke.  Is there an RV park in Pulaski?

We have been lucky , Great RV parks , friendly people , but poor internet with my Verizon "Intellegent Mobile Hotspot " thingy . It is a wireless connector that is suposed to run up to 5 wi fi outfits @ once .  About like slow dial up . Tough to upload pictures with it.
Costs 50$ per month fpr 5 gig of band width. Really not worth it . Seems like every neighborhood we are in has an unsecured network to ride off of.
Free camping in the desert BLM sites . This rig is self contained , can run a week @ a time between propane , water fills and holding tank dumps.
Left Handed people are in their right mind .

We thought you were unimpressed by our plan, so we slipped into the Radford Super 8 two days ago after driving over from the airport in Richmond.  We realized it's a bit close to where you work Tim, but you know how innocuous those rental cars are.  We've done a heck of a job on that 1917 in only two days.  Luckily the breech block swings freely now and seems to lock up just fine.  A friend in Idaho had two live shells and surplus 16" powder is available from a dozen sources, so we are basically in business.   ;) ;) Why don't you take this opportunity to tell everybody that the Krupp Kalendar is really a bad idea?  Please, we really love your beautiful, old 3-story house just the way it is...........intact.  Lets keep it that way!

Took a pic of the gun yesterday.  See it below.  Amazing how easily it cleaned up!!  With no pit to dig, we can hire 4 or 5 locals to help us spread the trails and swing 'er around.  Just waiting for the Kalendar quashing statement from you, Tim.  You can end this madness with just a word.  Will you?

Hmmm.

I think I recognize two of the locals in the picture!  But the cannon!

It was, over night, restored to it's original un-restored condition!

Hmmm.   Coercion isn't working.  I'm still thinking it would make an excellent Kalendar.  Perhaps negotiation?

Made Vicksberg!!!! A kajillion  Cannons everywhere...they have so many they should share with me,

I wasn't able to hook up with  Brokenpole. He goes to work early in the morning and so he was headed to bed when I called him.  Sorry Sparky, another time.  I wish I had  known you hours, I would have checked in with you  when we hit town at 3P.M.

I took over 200 pictures this after noon and will post some of them over the next couple of days.

Don't know where we are head tomorrow yet, we discussed the Selma Cannon works, but the other person wants to get DTR.

All the weather alerts in the area scare her.

I am sorry to Douglas.  Also apologize for our crappy weather.  But if the other person is worried about all the weather alerts, just remember that this stuff is headed east, which I beleive is the same direction your heading.

Stay another day in V-town...lol

Safe travels and God bless.

Well did I get a surprise.  DD decided to stay an extra day here in Vicksburg.  The weather was kind of nasty and it was moving east so they decided they wouldn't.

So tonight was a meal of crawdads, cole slaw and king cake.  DD is now an honorary cajun.

Thanks for stop Douglas.

Hey DD, I am free all day, just got off work a little bit ago, will catch a few z's this a.m.  As for a place near I-40, I would suggest the Turkey Creek area just off I-40 between Lovell Rd and Pellissippi Parkway. Many acres of parking anfd a lot of restaurants.  When you get an hour or so out of Knoxville, give me a call and I'll talk you in.  Come hungry.
