How to take apart a 45?
« on: March 07, 2011, 09:48:27 AM »
I got a Colt 45 auto and figured I'd take it apart first.  I had a similar pistol about 35 years ago and just couldn't remember how to get it apart.  I was just about ready to go to the gunsmith for advice when it occurred to me that the info I want might be on Youtube.  Eureka!  There were more than a few clips showing how to take apart a 45.  Anyway, I took it apart and put it back together and it shot very well so I guess I did it correctly.  This pistol is going to be a lot of fun to shoot.

After removing the slide assembly and mainspring housing, I remove the safety, push out the pins, turn it up and shake.  Removing the magazine catch will release the trigger.

Reassembly requires that you know where the parts belong.
