Herters model super 72 12 ga reloader
« on: March 08, 2011, 02:53:10 PM »
I just inherited a Herters model super 72 reloader. I was curious as to what this reloader is worth? Its in working condition and has a cord going to what seems to b a sizer on it. The cord needs replaced but other than than its not bad. Ant info on this piece would be much appreciatted. Thank you.

Can you post any pics?

And do you ever attend any gun shows?  That attract many 'collectors' interested in rare things like that Herter's reloader?  At our seattle shows we have a fellow who buys 'old equipment,' but I doubt he would give very much for such items.

Try asking at ShotgunWorld.com too.  Eventually somebody should know something (the more venues and shotgun forums you can ask).

I'll have to dig into my old Herter's catalog to see just what model is what. Last weekend I saved two in 12ga. from become fish structure (literally!) for $10 each and a small box of parts. Almost got a hernia carrying it all to the car. I figure they should last about as long as the Japan nuke power plant waste.
Now to figure out what does what; wish one would have been 20ga.

Update: yep, they are 72's and there is a decent description of use in the catalog, #84 of 1974
New, c/w ga. set and powder/shot hoppers was$59.97, conversion gauge units were $9.97; Ive no idea what the string would do. except maybe hold the handle up when not in use.
