Safety button for a 77 tang safety
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:18:15 PM »
I recently picked up a project gun from a guy I work with.  It was a model 77 tang safety 30-06, about 20 years ago it was one of the victims in a car wreck. The barrel was bent and the stock was broken.  The gun, what was left of it, had been stuffed away in a corner of his shop for many years.  While boxing up the parts years ago he lost the safety button.  Anyway I found a stock for it fairly easy, haven't looked to hard for a barrel since I haven't decided what to build yet.  But I am having trouble tracking down a safety button for it.  Does anybody know where I might find one?  Thanks for any help.

did you try ruger? Heck id send the whole gun to them in a box with a letter expaining what happened. It might suprise you how cheaply they would restore it. You allways have the option of after getting your quote saying no and having them send it back.

No I had not thought of that.  I might have to try that.

I called Ruger this morning and they gave me a phone number to Moyers Gun Repair.  He currently manufactures the safety buttons as well as other parts for Ruger rifles and a few Handi rifle parts.  I ordered the safety, he seems like a good guy to deal with, and he also has a website under his gun shop name.  Maybe this will also help somebody else.
