H&R Tracker ll
« on: March 11, 2011, 05:40:07 AM »
I'm thinking of trying out a 20 gauge rifled slug barrel. Am I correct in thinking the Tracker ll is the same as the ultra light slug hunter except for a standard butt stock instead of the "monte carlo" comb and open sights instead of scope mount? That's the way it looks but is there any other difference?
Also, why does H&R use a recoil pad that is as hard as a plain plastic buttplate?

I think all the rifled bbls that come out of Illion now are the same whether the say Tracker II, Pardner or nothing at all. The only differance is bbl contour. As far as rifling I found no negligable dif. between standard cut and the Ultragon cut and they are Ultragon now. Differances used to be sight and scope mount but now they all come with scope mount only. To me how they come with stocks no longer matters as every thing is interchangable except the bull bbl forend. Kurt

Not positive, but I believe the ultra light slug hunter come with a scope base and no iron sights.  The Tracker II has the opposite setup.  Iron sights only.

Hummm, I thought that's what I wrote. ;D    The H&R website shows the Tracker ll still has iron sights but that may be outdated, they've been guilty of that before now. So anyhow, there isn't much difference and no reason to think one would be more accurate than the other. Is that right?

So you did - guess I need to read beyond the first line. ::)

Bud's still shows the Tracker with irons, but PHATINJUN may be more in-the-know.

Mostly what I am trying to say is since Rem took over not much of how they used to be modeled goes anymore. The way they shot was no differance to me. If you want one with sights or scope mount you really need to ask the person who is selling it how it is configured. The first ULSH that I had came with both and was a Pardner bbl . One of the ones I got now is marked Pardner TrackerII has just the scope mount. Kurt

Thanks Injun, I do want open sights so I guess I'd better ask.

AFAIK, the Ultra's barrel is also heavier/thicker than the RS version.

Could be but H&R's website shows the same weight for the Ultra Light and the Tracker, of course the Ultra slug hunter is much heavier.

Oh yeah, I do know about 12 gauge recoil and never doubted that "twenty is plenty".
