No rear sights at DW
« on: March 11, 2011, 02:29:05 PM »
Finally decided to replace the wobbly rear sight on my DW 357.  E-mail out to them last night and got a quick response.

Good Afternoon Don,

We would like to be able to help you. However, we no longer have any rear sights in stock nor have a source to obtain them from. I apologize for bearing this bad news. We have had some of our dedicated customers tell us that the RUGER BLACKHAWK rear sight does fit some of our revolvers. I again am sorry for not being of better assistance. Thank you however for choosing Dan Wesson.

So anyone have experience mounting the Ruger rear sight on a DW ?

If the Ruger sight will work I'd go to Hamilton Bowen's Target rear sight...

Axehandle, I contacted Bowen by e-mail and they are going to work with me to see if they have something that will fit.
Fast, to the point and very helpful.   If it works great, if not I still have found a sight maker for future use.

Gypsyman.  Thanks but Millet no longer makes that sight, nor does anyone else.  Hopefully Hamilton Bowen will be able to help.  The DW is an outstanding pistol that I plan on keeping.

UP-DATE;  Hamilton B sent me a ruger take off sight he had.  Blackhawk sight does fit.  I am in the process of ordering a sight from Hamilton.  Will keep you updated.

Lost Oki,

What model is your DW?  I'm thinking it is a newer model  than mine, or my Blackhawk must be different.  I would love a better rear sight for my Model 14.

My 357 is the 715-VH in stainless.  I bought it last year from the original owner and have the foam box with all tools, warranty card, etc.  Sight did not wobble when I purchased it but after 100 rounds, and cleaning I noticed that it had started.

The blackhawk sight dropped right in, pin slipped in place.  Fit is good, overall contour of the sight is not a perfect match but
never had a problem with a minor blemish keeping me from hitting the target.

I managed to create a delay in getting the new sight...my fault, but should have that worked out next week.

New rear sight finally got here from Bowen Classic Arms.  Installed the day it arrived, 5 minutes total.  Sighted in today.  Works great
See attached pics of sight.  Flat black, matching front sight.  White outline sure helps these old eyes.

I have a 715 also. DW told me the same thing. I ordered a blackhawk and gp100 rear sight from midway, and found they are bothe very similar. I then ordered a williams firesight set from midway for a gp100. It works! It sits a little high, but it should work good.
