Hand gonnes - methods of attaching the 'tiller'
« on: March 12, 2011, 12:53:30 AM »
I'll post this evening some pictures of ways I've used to attach the tiller.  There are several.  SOME of theme are genuinely low-tech that work well (for folks that have primitive tooling and want to build one).

Thanks for brining this to the top.  I'm on break now (at work) and will get back to this later tonight.

Here are two ways I've used.  There are others!

The taper fits close and works well - wedges in like a morse taper and holds until twisted.  Highly recommended - unless you put an axe blade on it (like Dom's).

If you are willing to have a "permanent" connection (can be removed with heat), glass bed it on.

That did cross my mind - until it came time to clean it (the hand gonne that is).

All mine are pined, I used a dowel pin that is flush with the tube. I can take it off but no reason.
I just clean them like I clean all my BP guns  and if I really wanted to do the hot soap water cleaning just stick it in the bucket with the wood up.

But I found it best to use Balistol and water 50/50 to clean, and never had a problem.

This one has a removable pin. Being able to separate the six pound gonne from the 55 inch long staff makes cleaning a lot easier.

Thanks Mike H. and Tim.

Zulu, I haven't been hiding it. I posted pictures of it here back in February of '09.

Douglas, Thanks for the Kewpie but you may want to rescind it since you gave me one when I first posted pictures. Although double Kewpie's would be a very special honor indeed.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

I heard that when you get older, the second thing to go is your memory.  I can't remember what the first thing was.  ;D
