I like daylight savings time!
« on: March 14, 2011, 08:37:32 AM »
It's great to get the extra hour of daylight in March. It was a great idea to make daylight savings time start about a month earlier than it used to be.

Now, if we could only get it changed again so that it varies year-round so that I always have five hours of daylight after work for hunting or fishing we'd be all set.

I used to love when we changed to daylight savings time and had the extra daylight in the afternoons. I'm retired now and don't really care as I can follow my own schedule. I can still remember when it was changed in winter because of the oil embargo in the "70s. Boy, it was cold out stumbling around in the dark until the sun came up. I didn't enjoy any of that.

I get an hour of extra light after work. Maybe I'm the only one that notices. ;)

You betcha! Like going to the shooting range again after a long deep-snow winter. Gettin' out with the dawg in late afternoon. The extra hour makes a huge difference.

Don't see the big deal.  Same amount of daylight.  Only matters for a few weeks and then it light from 0600 until 2200 anyway.  I'd rather they just leave the "time" alone and not mess with it.  How did folks manage for the millenia before DST was "discovered"?

I suspect they didn't punch a clock and get home at 5:30-6:00 every night like a lot of today's American workers.

I swear, some people would complain about the extra weight if you walked up and handed them a $100 bill.

I'm not complaining about it... I just don't see the benefit.  I guess if I had to punch a clock it might be different.  Haven't had to punch a clock since I was 16.  Either go PT in the light or the dark or indoors, doesn't really matter.  It's just one of those things.  And why do we need more time in afternoon in the summer? The days are 12 hours or more then anyway.  Seems like it would be MORE beneficial in the winter doesn't it?

Ever since I was a young boy, I always wondered why the clocks weren't just moved a half hour and left alone? Whats thirty minutes one way or the other? Gonna be a new executive order (besides the other ones), when I'm in charge.  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

I hate it when it first starts every year.My internal clock still goes off at 5:30 in the morning any way.Now it's 4:30.I can't go back to sleep,so I get up a hour earlier. Then I'm too dang sleepy to stay awake in the evening. It'll take me a couple of weeks to get back on track.Like it after that.Just wish they'd leave it alone though.

Here in Alaska we think it is a stupid idea.  Right now it gets light at 7AM, and does not get dark till about 9PM.  We are gaining 7 minutes a day of sunlight.  By May the working folks won't see darkness, till August.  So there is no reason for us to go on Daylite Savings Time.  I'm retired and I still get up at the same time and go to bed at the same time, no matter what the clock says.

During the winter I wake up to a local morning show on the radio, and I like it.  During the summer I wake up to Glen Beck.  I would rather wake up to the morning show year round.

i happen to hate it.    i would prefer if a company wanted to use it, that they would change their hours.    it jams up my inner clock and it takes me a long time to adjust to it.    what a bunch of crap.    yet another reason to like arizona.

The only thing that bugs me a little about the whole thing is having to reset all the danged clocks twice a year.

Magooch:

Dont worry, be happy! I don't change any clocks. I just rely on my cell phone time to tell me when I need to be at work.  If you don't like having so many clocks to change, just throw a few of them away. You don't need them.  :) :) :)

Our rural electric is so unsteady that I am already use to resetting my clocks several times a month due to short outages!

AZ doesn't change their clocks.for reasons given by sourdough, I wonder why AK does? Seems they would just set their clocks to take advantage of the dark winter months and leave 'em alone.

Back during the pipeline days they put all of Alaska on one time zone, we had been on four before.  We were put on the time zone for Southeastern.  Before Fairbanks had been five hours behind the East Coast.  Now we are 4 hours behind them.  If Alaska did not go on Daylite Savings Time then we would go back to five hours behind the East Coast.

I don't have a problem with being five hours behind the East Coast myself, but some business folks do.  I say let those business folks come to work an hour early.  That is one thing Sarah Palin was for changing, but the Democrats in our Legislature fought her on it.

I don't like it. Here in Arizona when it's 115 degrees plus the last thing you need is a longer day with more sun. It's one of the reasons we don't have it.The other reason we just plain different! ;)
