New Ruger Blackhawks
« on: March 14, 2011, 04:11:42 PM »
I have a hankering for a single action in 41 mag. I got to looking at the Rugers, which I haven't done for a while, and got to wondering. What is the difference in the new rubber grip Blackhawks and the wood grip models? Is the cylinder frame still the same? Is the grip frame still the same, just with rubber instead of wood grips. My FFL says the new ones are a little cheaper than the wood grip ones, is this true?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

They are the same.  Some of the plastic gripped versions have a lock inside the grip.

Good. I was afraid they made them smaller like they did the vaqueros. I can deal with the lock even though it drives me nuts knowing that it is there lol.

Another thing...I got to looking, the grips look a little different shape. Can the rubber ones be swapped out with the wood ones without modification to the grips?

YES the Blackhawk 41 mag is still the XR3-RED grip frame and any grips for same will fit.

Be advised that the Lock is slightly thicker than the grip frame and the grip panels are "clearanced" to fit.

This pic shows the lock assembly as installed in a 50th Anniv. Blackhawk.
