bald eagles

Powderman's profile picture reminded me of this. The other day I was driving over the Rolling Fork river just outside of Bradfordsville in south Marion Co. and saw a huge bald eagle sitting in a tree less than 100yds from the bridge. I had cars behind me or I would have stopped and had a better look. I was amazed at the size of theses birds, looked like its legs were as big around as a pop can, and it looked to be over 2ft tall.

I had seen another one(or maybe the same one) a few months ago flying over the house. A flock of canada geese came over and as I was watching them I noticed another "goose" behind them. "that's a funny lookin goose" I thought, but I soon realized it wasn't a goose. I ran in the house and got my wife and had her to come and see it as it got closer to the house, and sure enough, big, beautiful white head and tail feathers, wings looked to be 6 or 7 feet across, flew right over the garage. It was pretty high up but we didn't have any trouble telling what it was.

Anybody else seen any around these parts?

Hey JonD,
I haven't seen any in this area of KY but have been hearing of more sightings.  I think that someone was telling me that they saw them down the Cumberland below the dam toward Burkesville.

When I lived up north I saw them along the Deleware in the Milford, PA area.  I was crossing the bridge from NJ to PA one morning headed to work.  The bridge is at least 100 ft above the water.  Caught movement in the corner of the left eye and looked over to see an eagle soaring up the river at eye level to my car.  It passed over the bridge and I saw it gliding on up stream as I passed.  That was a totally awesome thing to experience.  Eye level with an Eagle.
