50-70 carbine
« on: March 17, 2011, 04:13:36 AM »
Where is a good source for 50-70 brass?  I have a Sharps carbine and would like to work up some loads for it (informal target, plinking and hunting deer sized game). I think I'm gonna need around a 550 to 600 gr. bullet for the 1 in 22" twist, I'd like to go lighter but don't know if a 450gr. would shoot real well in that fast a twist. I don't see anything heavier than 515gr. in the Lyman bullet moulds.
 Thanks

Jim

Don't worry, 515gr. will be plenty in that carbine!

Yeah, I agree lol. I have heard that the 1 in 22" rate of twist won't shoot the lighter bullets very accurately. I've got two 50 cal. moulds already a 330gr. and a 425gr. and if I can get hunting accuracy fron them thats what I'll use, if not I'll go heavier. Thanks a bunch for the brass link.
