My experience is with the 130gr Speer in a 7 M/M 08.  this was with a new Douglas barrel during load development and accuracy testing on a 1909 Peruvian Mauser Action, these loads are not maximum, they were for a new teenage hunters use.

xx grains of H380 with 130 grain speer group size .936 Velocity 2710.
xx grains of H380 with 130 grain speer group size .719 Velocity 2770.

My experience is that in the fast twist 7 M/M barrels the 145 grain Speer is a little more accurate.

xx grains H380 with 145 grain speer velocity 2704 group size .466
xx grains H380 with 145 grain speer velocity 2620 group size .616

This rile is a solid 1/2 rifle with the 145 grain and right at 3/4 inch with the 120 grain.

It depends on what 7mm you are talking about. If it is a 7mm Rem mag or something like that you will need a tougher bullet 154 Hornady SP works really well.  If you keep the Speer 130 around 2800 fps or so it should do OK on deer size game. I have used the 120 Nosler Ballistic tip and if you keep the muzzle velocity below 3000 fps it makes a great low recoil deer killer. The 139 SP or SST Hornady does well if kept under 2800 fps as a killer and low recoil in a 7-08 or 7mm Mauser. They all can be made to shoot well in most rifles with the right load. The key is put them in the vitals and the deer will die.

Ok,

Here is my 7x57 load in a 26 inch Douglas Barrel on a 1908 Brazilian Mauser.

145 Grain Speer xx grains N-204 velocity 2971. group size 6/10 tenths of an inch.
154 Grain Hornady xx grains W785 velocity 2923 group size 3/4 inch.

Here is my 7 M/M Remington Mag load in a 700 Remington with a 24 inch barrel.
145 Grain Speer xx grains H870 velocity 3191, group size just over 1/2 inch.

It will be used in a 7mm-08. We've been using the old 130 gr Sierra single shot pistol bullet. I started loading that one for my daughter when she was old enough to start hunting. My son got the hand me down rifle plus the supply of ammo that I had loaded up for it. I ran it with Varget and it seems 2500 fps as I recall. That little single shot pistol bullet was like lightining on deer for both of them. Pity Sierra discontinued it. I was hoping the Speer was a little tougher than the Sierra and I could boost velocity and flatten the trajectory out a little, and still be able to punch through our deer down here. Its a Browning A Bolt and has always shot the Sierra well. Shoots the 140  Sierra Gameking well too. But I like to keep all those for my 280  ;D

Then, the 7 M/M 08 130 grain loads I posted should work ok and they are accurate.

Congratulations on selecting the 7 M/M 08 as it is a much better choice for a beginning deer hunter than a .243.

The teenager I built the 7 M/M 08 for 20 years ago sold it and then turned around and had another 7 M/M 08 built recently admiting that he made a mistake in selling it off.

;) I shot quite a few deer with the 130 Speer boatail and flatbase..out of a 7mm Re. Mag. with a heavy charge of 4350.  It killed very well and never had a deer move far..most fell with in a few yards if they moved at all...I still have a few loaded, but will shoot them at coyotes as I will not hunt eastern whitetails much in the future..they worked fine for me as did 120 grain Horn. and 120 grain Nosler BTBT all over a heavy load of 4350..BUT I took care to place the bullets in the chest cavity// when I hunted with these bullets I had an area with hundreds of deer, so I could pick my shots...

Thanks y'all, I'll get some and load em up. I figured they'd be pretty good at 7mm-08 velocity. Its funny, after I started loading "managed recoil" loads for my kids Remington comes out with a few years later. I 've got another one to load for in the future so it was a good experience all the way around.
