Is there a certain kind of scope mount I have to use on my Valmet 412? If so what should I look for?

Welcome to GBO!

please dont take this the wrong way but the Valmet 412 scope mount works on the Valmet 412.  Also, the Tikka 512 scope made by Sako works and EAW has a 412 mount.  There are differences between the different makers.

I go back and forth between the Valmet (not made any more) and the EAW mount as to which is better.

The last Valmet 412 scope mount was on ebay for $160 buy it now.

The EAW has its advantages and disadvantages.

It sits lower than the Valmet and IMHO is faster to mount and sight for moving game.
It has 2 mounting wheels that need to be tightened by an Allen wrench vs the Valmet single tightening wheel which can be hand tightened
It is more expensive than the Valmet scope mounts.

I use the EAW mount on my 12/30-06 and 12/.222  every thing else has the Valmet mount.

The idea is to beabeable to take it off or put it on "instantly" and quickly, without tools, only the Valmet mount does that, AND comes back to zero perfectly...

BTW, if needed, you can get different height rings for it...

good point.  The EAW does require the use of an Allen wrench.  The Sako mount also does not require a tool, but I like the Valmet and EAW much better.

Good morning/afternoon Folks

Brugger and Thomet make a mount for the 412/512.  The part number is BT-10178.

The link is as follows:

http://www.bt-ag.ch/en/manufacturing/mountingsystems/optical_sight_mounts.php?pid=502

The price (Canadian) as I just ordered one is $165.00.

The mount accepts any cross-base (Weaver Base) style rings.

Unfortunately the mount is made of aluminum apparently.
