« on: March 19, 2011, 02:57:58 PM »
Found a shotshell recipe for a trap load along with 2 other recipes for "redot" shotgun powder. One is for a.357/w a 158 grain hollow point and the other is for a 9mm/w a 147 gr round nose. A nice versatility powder.

Red Dot's been a popular 12ga target powder for eons. It's a bit slower than Bullseye but still a "fast" powder. I'm trying to use up my last bit since I don't shoot shotgun anymore. The current load is 3.5gr in a 357 case pushing a 148 DEWC. It'll also work for popgun lead loads in a 44 Mag and can be used in the 45 ACP.
Google "The Load" of 13gr of Red Dot in rifle cases. I tried it using pulled 110gr FMJ bullets in a 308. It made for cheap offhand practice.

"Clays" is also a versatile powder, covering .38 spcl, .380, 9mm, 12 and 20 gauges, nice when one powder has many uses.  Also like 2400 for .22 K Hornet and .44 Mag

Green Dot also can be used like this and of course the all time winner is Unique.  I've used Herco in heavy shot loads and handgun loads too.

I figgure you can load 5 grains of Red Dot in almost anything under a lead bullet.  I use it in my 30-30, 7x30 Waters, 7mm TCU, 375 Winchester, 45-70.

Yes you can I just prefer to have at least 60% of the case filled, especially in my .45-70.

I like a versatile powder that will accommodate multiple calibers.  That is not to say that it will be the most accurate across those calibers.

Red Dot powder is one of the powders you don't here gunwriters giving it's due praise.  I use it in my Super Blackhawk with 240gr swaged lead bullet as my grounhog/plinking load.  Use it in my 1945 Remington Rand
1911A1 .45 ACP under any 230gr bullet and a myriad of loads in my .357's and .38 Specials.  Red Dot is a powder I'll always have on the shelf.
