What Should Your State Firearm Be?
« on: March 19, 2011, 07:34:43 PM »
Utah is now the first state in the nation to have a state firearm -- John Browning's 1911.  John Browning was born and raised in Ogden, Utah.  Here is the link to the story:

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/US/03/18/utah.state.firearm/index.html

Sooooo, what should your state's firearm be and why?

Blessings!

I live in CA, so this one would be most appropriate....

I'm thinking for Wyoming, maybe a Hawken rifle. Because of all the mountain man history and the rendezvous.

For ny, how about a Vienna Weenie Water Pistol that only drips and doesn't squirt, although both Remington and Ithaca Firearms plants started here, as well as a few others during and just after the revolution.

Victor,

Great picture! It is certainly appropriate for the People's Republic of California!  I was thinking a 50 BMG Barrett or high capacity assault rifle would be a good state firearm for CA since the state legislature is so fond of them!

What about Dirty Harry's .44 Smith or .44 Auto Mag for CA?

Blessings!

I would think that a Kimber of Oregon with a Leupold scope would be appropriate for Oregon.

Illinois, Wisconsin, and New York should have the "Price Gun" as their state firearm. No it doesn't shoot bullets, but it does kill economies. 8)

Surely state legislatures have better things to do than come up with state anythings. If not then we should stop paying them to waste time at the capitol.

Graybeard, I agree but since they do I find it remarkable that given our firearm, and especially handgun, phobic society that there would be such a thing as a state firearm and that a handgun would be chosen.  Hopefully this will serve to remind people that firearms are not intrinsically evil and that the 2nd Amendment is to be upheld.

Blessings!

My state here?  the BB gun and that maybe too dangerous for CT. "this is a you'll shoot your eye out kid" state for sure.  There wimps. And for jesus christ's sake don't give them anything that goes bang.  The'll try to bann that too.

Example; We can't own any AK style rifle or any semi auto in 7,62x39 except for the sks.  But we can own the ak/akm russian saiga in 223 or 308 but not that bad caliber of 7,62x39 go figure. When i move to a free state i'm going to purchase every ak made just because i can.

We elect these people, pay these people to repusent us yet they do a 180 degree turn and bit us in the @ss.  We need to vote these clowns out of office the next time around and let them get real jobs.  They can get in the soup line too and let them see what the real world is like. They need to do an "Under cover politician show".

No, you can't have that one!

Once again the classic "Hawken" has returned.

There is a bill in the Alaska Legislature right now proposing the pre 64 Winchester M 70 30-06 as the state firearm.  Frankly I didn't cast my vote to send folks to Juneau to screw around with this sort of frivolous crap. I sent an opinion message to every member saying so too.  And I'm a  big fan and owner of a pre 64  in 30-06.  But I get darned tired of seeing them spend precious time and money on "special this day" and "special that whatever" then hearing them whine that they need more time to get real business done.  I can see Utah honoring John Browning and maybe some other states could honor prominent gun designers / builders but not in Alaska unless it was old Bill Fuller or ?? Johnson for their works in the 1940's - 60's.

I have a closet full of guns- no where near as many as some folks on this forum -  I'm a very avid shooter - but I don't like to see our Legislature fool with this kind of thing.

I guess I'm a crank.

For Kansas I would recommend it be a Sharps due to all the buffalo that were killed here in the 1800s. Due to the history of lawmen in old west Kansas a Colt .36 Navy or the 1873 Colts SA would also fit.

I guess since cheapshooter is all possessive of the Hawken, and since Missouri ain't got anything else going for it........ ;D
(just kidding)

I guess Wyoming would have to go with the Freedom Arms M-83 in either .454Casull or .500Wyoming Express.
Not as much history in that, but oh well!............At least it is made there...................

I too agree that state legislators should not get involved in these sorts of wastes of their time. If these worthies do inflict this behavior on the State of South Dakota (as they have with an official state dessert for instance >:() then this gun shoud be the Colt 1851 Navy revolver because of Wild Bill Hickock.
