What passes for comedy these days is each new comedian trying to be more vulgar and shocking than this fellows. Guys like Red Skelton and Jack Benney could make you laugh without resorting to smut.

BILMAC. YEP, true. They were real comedians.  ;D
BEERBELLY. True Sir.
junior. Why am I not shocked that you would enjoy vulgar, nasty,  immoral behaviour and call it entertainment??:D :D POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Blue humor is not something new. The term comes from the Vaudeville era of the 1890's. It got it's name because if a comic used racy material they would have a blue envelope on their door warning them not to use that line again. The Burlesque shows of the early 1900's sprang forth from the people wanting more of the blue material and it even outlived the clean Vaudeville show. Although, I'm sure it is much worse, and much more common today, dirty comedy has been around for a long time. If one is offended by it they should find something else to watch.

Well a couple have already said it, but I'll put it a different way. If you don't watch this clown, then he won't offend you. In the old days a husband, brother, father, son, or some other relative would have already beat hell out of Letterman, or one of the others, and the rest would know to keep their mouths shut.
My 67 year old GREAT GRAND FATHER, beat hell out of a 26 year old on the town square on a Saturday morning for insulting one of his daughters. My Grand Father, and Father watched to see that no one interfered. The 26 year old learned a lesson about his mouth, AND old men. No one blamed my Great Grandfather, and no one tried to stop it.

We need more of this ! spare the rod and all has gotten us no where.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I guess the point that I was trying to make was this: there have always been people who have said offensive things, I don't always like what is said , but I love that they have a right to say it. When I took my enlistment oath many years ago I basically said that I was willing to die for the rights of all Americans to say what is on their mind, not just the one I agree with. Do some comedians step over the line? Yes they do, but I have also been guilty of telling jokes around a campfire with my friends that I wouldn't have told if my mom was there, or anyone's mom for that matter. I love freedom and hate the government sticking it's nose in my life. If I want them to stop what I find offensive, one day some one is going to be offended by what I say, and it is I who will be silence . I don't ever want that day to come. I  do agree with a lot of the other posters too in saying that if people were caused to carry the full responsibility of what they say then they may choose their words more carefully. I'm all for free speech just be willing to accept the consequences for your actions.

LABRAT. Good post Sir. I'd imagine that most of us have done the same, I know I have, but I grew up. After I found God those jokes were not funny anymore. Theres not a  curse word that I don't know, and have probably used at times, I choose not to do so anymore. And yes, I occasionally lose my temper and say things I regret, I'm human.
So called comediens like pryor have contributed greatly to the decline of morality  and family values in America by spewing their filth in public as if it is normal acceptable behaviour, to many of us it is not. Bill Cosby is funnier than pryor and he doesn't have to wallow in the mud with the pigs to do it. Comediens like pryor breed liberals and we can see what they are doing to America, and the world, most liberals are morally bankrupt and are rapidly leading the world to destruction. POWDERMAN.   :( :( :( :( :( :(
