Last few barrels I have been putting scopes on I have used the TASCO World class 3-9X40, used Weaver HIGH mounts, and rings....Gives me just enough room over the hammer  ( with offset  )....
I have a big Simmons 3-10 AO, on my little hornet barrel, and another simmons 3-9X40 on one of my other barrels and still another with a straight 6 power weaver...
After using these Tasco scopes, I think I am going to swap out  the other oddball scopes to other rifles and use all Tasco 3-9X40, That way all scopes come up the same when I hunt, the eye relief is all the same , just makes it easier to swap from one barrel to another....
I use the Weaver rings, and the last two barrels I scoped I found some new type Weaver rings, Called  "QUAD LOCK" ,I like these real well and the best part is they were only $12.00 at DICK's !  I been paying $23.00 for the std weaver rings with the steel strap and 4 screws....      8)          PJ

FWIW, I just bought 2 sets of matte low Burris Zees at Wholesale Sports(SW) yesterday, one set to mount a Leupold M8 Compact 2˝x20 on the 444 Marlin Superlight,  they were $24.99 a pair, a much better ring than anything I've used from Weaver lately, mounted on a Leupold rail, they take very little lapping to get 75-80% contact, for comparison the last set of Weaver Grand Slams I bought are marked Made in China, they took a good 2hrs lapping to get 60% contact.   :-\

The new 33mm Redfield Revolution...

I have two older Redfiled scopes - both of them the Wide Field variety.  One on a 30-30 Marlin 336; another on a .223 Handi.  I am poised to purchase two additional Redfield scopes, one for a bull barrel .223 Handi and one for a .243 Handi.

Redfield Scopes are now owned and manufactured by Leupold, in the USA (Beaverton, Ore), on Leupold equipment, under Leupold supervision, using Leupold glass and Leupold chemistry on that glass, to the old Redfield specifications, for about 1/2 the price of a new Handi-rifle.  It is a marriage of optics and gun that was made in Heaven.  To quote Mark Keefe, AR Editor-in-Chief

Good Article,

In the article the writer noted  -
"When I asked York about the Wideview, he tried to stay deadpan, but just grinned as he said, “Everything’s on the table.”

I also had contacted Redfield via email and asked the same question. The response was about the same , They were exploring all options.

The finish on the Redfields looks like flat black paint.

I recently tried Talleys and my search for scope mounting products is over.

had good success with nikon prostaff 2-7x32 on heavy recoiling calibers, also had good success with nikon prostaff rifle scopes, had very good luck with tasco world class scopes, never had too much luck with bushnell scopes seen a lot of heavy calibers tear them to pieces, of course leupolds are great scopes too

While the don't fit the Handis well, todays Bushnells are as tough as anything out there.

I have several Swift scopes. Excellent optics at a great price. I think they also have a lifetime warranty, but not sure. Not too many people know about them.I have a 1.5 to 4 with a circle and duplex in it for my 45/70 . The + is for 100 yds. The bottom of the circle works at 200 yds and the top of the post works for 250 yds. Can't beat that. If you get a Swift- get the premier model.

OK......

And Handi barrels are not polished very well before bluing......

While both statements may be true, neither means one thing about it's performance and both keep the items lower in costs, making them a higher value for us,,,

All scopes mentioned are great scopes!

I'll bet the OP is saying, "that's just great, now I'm back to square one!" ;D

I use a Nikon Prostaff 2-7 shotgun scopein a set of low Leupold rifleman rings.  This gives almost no clearance for the hammer but the objective doesnt touch so thats what matters.  I have had several bushnells and leupolds but i love the nikon scopes.

There are a lot of better values that are well finished, and have better optics.

Nikon, Bushnell, and for just a couple of dollars more the Leupolds.

Speaking of Leupolds, aren 't the Redfields made by Leupold?

BTW what's wrong with a flat black finished scope for a hunting rifle? ???

Nothing wrong with a flat black fininsh as long as it's professionally applied.  The Redfields look rough.

My two new Redfields good, not rough at all, I like the flat black. They have the same finish quality of my matte Nikons.

I have Bushnell's banners on 4 rifles and they have held up very well, they do take a taller set of rings but it doesn't bother me cause I can carry it by the scope, and I like redfields also I have 4 of them also they don't look rough but are a matt no-glair finish.

I have two of the Redfield Revolutions, they're good looking and performing scopes, I put the 3-9x40 on my son's 30-06 Win 670 last year, he loves it. The only thing negative I've noticed about them is the turret adjustments are a bit mushy, clicks aren't as distinct as they could be, but other than that, they're good scopes for the money, and made in the US....that is if Oregon is still part of the US!!  ;D

FWIW, the last two scopes I bought are Redfield Revolutions 2x-7x.  I especially like the flat finish for a hunting rifle, the lifetime warranty backed by Leupold, and the price  ;).

I like the flat finish too, just not spray paint.
