Hi All,

Plan to hunt Indiana deer this fall. I have a 357 Maxi H&R that I believe is good to go for deer. It is my understanding that 1.625" max length for the brass is the rule and it must be straight wall. Is there a min/max caliber and is a rimless pistol cartridge legal? If you can link me to the rules I would apprecate that also.

Minimum .357 cal bullet and a max case length of 1.625".

It does not have to be a straight walled cartridge, but must meet the above criteria.

.458 Socom, .358 WSSM, and many other wildcats are legal in Indiana.

Looks like an excuse to buy a 500 S&W.

Actually, I am having a 45 Super rifle put together, or I may chamber it to 460 Rowland. Not a very hot round, about the same as a 44 Mag. I already have the 357 Maxi, but I think I will let my buddy use that one.

I will be hunting just outside of Elizabeth, IN, so I think it is either floyd or harrison county. Elizabeth is West of New Albany & SE of Corydon. I will be hunting on a friend's property. I hope his tractor will start, I don't like draggin' deer.

It is Harrison County and there are some big deer there. I sure hope your friend's last name isn't Blackman...

Thanks for the link, I see that 45 Super or 460 Rowland would not be legal as the case is too short. Guess I will have to go find a 500 S&W.

My friend is not a hunter and does not give out permission to hunt his land. I never asked him, he just brought it up now that we are both long in the tooth and having health problems. It will be a nice visit, deer or no deer.

Your buddy sounds like a lot of others around here. Most will let a few hunt occasionally if they know you or your family but shun outsiders like the plague, and with good reason. Considering the area, there will be game there whether you choose to get serious or not is kinda up to you. Enjoy your visit. That's the big thing anyhow.

But yes, it does sound like a very good excuse to buy a .500 mag, I wish I wouldn't have sold mine. Now that most of my projects are caught up and finished, I have been wanting another .500 big boomer.

Another option to consider with the .44 mag is to ream it out to .445 supermag. Now that is a nice round...

That would be a good one, IF they would make the brass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been itching to do it. But I am not going to if I have to make the brass.

Their website doesnt show it available. Just curious. Needing some myself (along with plenty others).......

It doesn't show on their website yet, but they called me wednesday at work and asked if I still wanted the brass I ordered 13 months ago. I gave them my credit card # and received it friday.

There was a rumor a while back that the brass length was going up to 1.8". Anything ever come of that?

From what I heard, if it does change it won't happen until 2012.
