Anyone try lightweight bullets in a 32-20?
« on: March 26, 2011, 11:58:22 AM »
I'm considering using a 70 grain plated bullet for lo-vel loading in my 32-20.

Anyone ever try these 32 ACP sized bullets in a 32-20 rifle?  I'm switching to plated bullets if I can find them in Canada.  So far found only the 70 grainers from Frontier imported here from south Africa.  The jacketed 32 are running well over $20 per box and .25 per bullet really disturbs mt Scots genes!

I was going to cast but a blood disorder closed that door recently.  Its zero lead risk or stop shooting.

Hey Bob:  did that once for a old 32-20 revolver I had - seem to work without problem, accuracy was about the same as Winchester factory ammo.  I would slug your bore though as the 32 acp slugs run around .310 jacketed and sometimes those older rifles can have larger bores.  BTW - the 93 gn rn bullet for the 30 Luger/7.65 Luger can also be used.

My old Lyman manual lists a 80 gn jacketed Remington bullet #B22808, loaded over Unique, 2400 and IMR4227 with velocities  beyond 2,000'/sec from a old 24" Savage rifle.  HTH.
