Gun Show advice
« on: March 26, 2011, 03:42:17 PM »
Today I went to a gun show in Maumee,OH. with 2 Ultra Varmints and not one person asked me about them. I have not been to a show in 20+ yrs. Last time I went dealers asked me what ya got and how much ? Today I walked around each table and got no interest at all..Do I need to put for sale on or ask dealers if they might be interested ? Thanks.

The best place to catch a fish is where they live. Advertise them in the classifieds here if you really want to give them new homes.

Not what they used to be. I went to one recently for the first time and many years and it was terrible. Crowded but I saw very little buying and selling. They made their money at the door I guess.

Ya it's tough at Gun shows in this neck of the woods too.
Every looker is trying to find a steal price on a gun (or anything), and dealers have to pay table fees and the gas to get there. Everyone that brings a gun to sell or trade pretty much thinks it's gold plated.
A Gun show afternoon is still better than no show, at least ya git to hang around a crowd that's talkin guns an such.

And yes, if your selling you need to let people know your selling. If you have nothing pinned to your back or show the gun's to dealers they'll just think your carrying around something you just bought. Bein bashfull at a show don't help ya sell.

Well then another tip,
Seem's parting out works faster then sellin the entire gun. By all means list the guns complete, but don't be afraid to offer them as parted out after a week or so in the classifieds. You'll make as much if not a little more parting out even with shipping included.
Just study a bit what items are going for currently, and you'll get an idea what kind of $$ ta ask for.

put a flag on the muzzle with the price on it and you will get their attention.

i went to the biggest gun show in the midwest last weekend in Birch Run, MI with over 1500 tables and a guy had a .22-250 varmit with a brown lam thumbhole stock for $650, i said thats about $300 more than its worth on a good day and he said he paid $450 for it and i just told him i felt sorry for him because he got ripped off

A sign on the bbl is a great idea. That way you might have a chance to sell it to another looker too.
