Seems like all the new movies from hollywood have nothing to offer other than car crashes, shooting up things with auto fire, and explosions. I haven't seen one with a decent story line for so long that this former addict no longer bothers to watch.

The wife brought home a CD, I suppose from Wal-Marts cheapo basket, called Five Minutes of Heaven. An Irish movie about the spin off of the civil war there. It's not the best movie ever made, but by golly it has a story line and I will remember it for longer than the time it takes to watch it.

Seems like all the movies I have actually enjoyed watching the last few years have been made in foreign lands. Australian, Irish, Canadian and even Japanese and Swedish movies are head and shoulders above most made in America crap. One Swedish movie that has stuck in my mind for quite awhile now is The Ox.

My wife loves the Wal Mart $5 movie bin as well. Sometimes she picks a winner.

Get you a copy of LEDGENDS OF THE FALL, then sit back and enjoy a very interesting movie.

We joined Netflix and get all the old classics. Some black & white movies had great acting. My wife ordered one from Netfilx that was B&W called "You can't take it with you". This movie had a lot of the same characters as "Its a wonderful life" It starred Jimmy Stewart. Took place in the 1930's. Lots of good Cowboy movies from the 1950's. Lots of classics. They also have a lot of old TV shows from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They even have old commercials from the 50's and 60's that were funny and fun to watch. Not much good on TV except the History Military, or Discovery channels. We have watched some new movies that were copies of old movies. I still like John Wayne better in True Grit vs the new one.

I bought the Robin Hood searies, staring Richard Green , that was on B&W tv back in the 50s. Primative props but some of the shows are pretty good. Some show a surpriseing amount of liberalism that a Saturday morning cartoon fan wouldn't realize he was watching, but still some entertainment and a whole lot of viewing hours. ear

I recently bought the old series "Then Came Bronson" on DVD starring Michael Parks, riding around the country on a motorcycle...used to watch it as a teenager...now too old and blind to ride much.....

I watched "the blind side" yesterday.
Good movie. Sandra Bullock was funny and a good story. About Left tackle Micheal Ore.
Kelly's Heros is always a good watch. Late 60's early 70's WWII movie about a bank job behind enemy lines.
I am also good to always see "gross point blank"- silly movie about hit men. Funny.
Hey do you still have a VCR?
I am slowly converting the movies I have from VCR to DVD.
I can send you a couple of good movies.

Mc, we have been watching quite a few movies since Direct TV has been soooooo rotten....bought THE WILD BUNCH, RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY, AND BILLY THE KID all by Pickenpaugh (?)..I think for his time he did some great stuff. I especially like the guns in these movies..

I was just ready to suggest "The Blind Side" to bilmac, I see you beat me to it. I really liked that move. Very good movie based on a true story. Another good movie that never got much publicity was "No Reservations" You could probably find it in the Walmart cheap basket. Another is Sweet Home Alabama, which has a nice story.

Jose Whales is one of my all time favorites, along with The Last of the Mohicans, and Braveheart. The Last of the Mohicans is at the top. I have probably watched that movie more than a dozen times. If you have never seen it, watch it, I think its an awesome movie.

Band of Brothers series is good along with The Pacific series.

I just read a book called unbroken written by Laura Hillenbrand, that I though was very good. Its a true story about Louis Zamperini, who was a Olympian and a POW in WWII. I read that they are going to make a movie
on this story. I can't wait to see it. What Zamperini went through is unbelievable. The guy is still living today.

Another movie they are going to come out with is Atlas Shrugged, its Ayn Rands novel. I really enjoyed the book, I'm sure the movie will be good also.

Is it just me or does it seem like Hollywood is coming out with all these demon movies. Movies along the lines of The Exorcist. I can't stand these types of movies, but someone must be watching them, for them to make so many of them.

The POW line made me think of "the Great Escape" Or "the Bridge too far"
I love the line in a Bridge too far when the germans ask the British for terms of their surrender and the Brits (para troopers) answer back that they could not possibly take prisoners. The German LT or Pvt. holding the flag has a great look on his face.
Patton too is a good few hours of rainy day.
There was another movie pretty reciently about the Army in the Phillipeans that raided a POW camp.
I can not remember the name of the movie, but it has Benjiman Bratt ( from law and order) in it.
I read the book long before seeing the movie. I remember it following the book closely.
For two years I did not have Cable or Satalite and I bought movies on a regular basis. Still do to a point.
OH in the bargin bin was "The usual suspects" And "LA Confidential" Both great crime movies.
I gues when I go home tonight I will make a list of the movies I have on VHS sitting in the garage and offer them here.

I saw "LA Confidential", but have never seen "The Usual Suspects", I'll have to check it out. The Great Escape, and The Bridge to Far are really good movies. I probably have see The Bridge to far half a dozen times. That was an awesome line in the movie.

I also went years with no cable or Dish service, and bought movies. I probably have around 80 titles in DVD. A couple movies I have watched recently, and are fairly new movies, is "Salt" and "The Tourist". Both staring Jolie. I liked them both, and are worth watching. Not that I'm a Jolie fan, but I think she is a good actress.

It's more of a movie about a family with three sons that is all but torn apart by war, love and family but turns out that blood is thicker than water.
Stars Brad Pitt (which I am not a real big fan of) but he does a great job in this role, Anthony Hopkins as the father. (He really plays his part well)

Very very gripping story!

I really like the old Sherlock Holmes movies. The ones with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. I have some of those that have been digitaly remastered. Loved watching these on the weekend as a kid. They use to air like mid day on a Sunday on network TV. They are still great today. The Charlie Chan movies were great too.

The Bridge on the River Kwai, great movie. I also like most any John Wayne western movie. Another good John Wayne movie is the High and the Mighty.

Val Kilmer Plays Pattersen, Michael Douglas is a copelation of western hunters that showed up to help while in the area.
Also while looking at the movie titles.

one of my other all time favorites.

+1 for "The ususal Suspects" I have loved that movie for along time! Of course there others as well:

Happy Gilmore/The waterboy - yeah, I know....stupid but I can't help it they make me laugh out loud!
