*"... Wherever you encounter (nonbelievers), kill them, seize them, besiege them, wait for them at every lookout post...."

* "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

* "If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, 'Let us go and worship other gods'... do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death."

* "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

With the above,  picking certain passages you could say that both religions are centered around violence.

Be prepared.

Where does this statement emanate from?

None of your alleged passages have any contextual reference. The two cannot be compared with out the context of the statement. To post them as you have is like moving a road sign to another road. The sign says no left turn, but left is the only way to turn in the curve. Put the context of each one, and then lets see how they hold up.

I do know that Jesus said " Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth.  I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Jesus was referencing how being a true Christian will have people hate you and want to kill you.  He also said the "Word of God is like a two edged sword dividing the soul from the spirit.  He also said to be at peace with all men.  He said to turn the other cheek.  He said we would be hated and dispised.

God had two aspects to himself.  He is HOLY and demands holineness and obedience on one side of the coin as in the Old Testiment.  He is LOVE showing mercy and salvation through Jesus in the New Testiment.  The old testiment shows how evil man was.  The Cananites who possessed the promised land were sacrificing their children live to Molech their god.  They had other sins.  God had enough of the murder of children.  He used His Chosen people to cleanse the land of the evil people.  (We had to fight WWII to stop Hitler and the Nazis).  In the New Testiment, Jesus came to save man from these sins.  All one has to to is admit they are a sinner, ask Jesus to come into their heart to forgive their sins and save them for eternity.  This begins the personal relationship to God Christians enjoy.

Many things posted on this board are out of context. Sorry, no more help. I do however know where they came from in both books. Dixie Dude, very good, that one is from Matthew 10:34.

The Koran, 9:5  Matthew 10:34, Deuteronomy 13:6-9, Numbers 31:17-18

Is there a prize?

I think the Bible should be amended to state, "If thy computer offendeth thee, thou shalt turneth it off".

Who cares what text they are taken from? Actions, or in the case of islam repeated mass murders speak louder than words.

Good catch. This was from his Monday column. I thought he made a good point. Apparently not to many here are probably fans of his writings.
