Nice Maine Brookie (Pics)
« on: March 29, 2011, 05:56:28 PM »
Caught this brookie while jigging smelts in Maine. Thought I would share it over here.
Caught this on a jig rod using 2 lb test line, size 24 bead head nympth in 13" of water. Was a great fight. Trout was 4 lb and was 9" from back to belly.

Enjoy. 8) 8)

Now that's one heck of a Brookie!  Going on the wall?

Love fishing the small back country streams and ponds in northern Maine for brookies, but never got one that big.  The natives are beautiful, by far the prettiest trout, in my opinion.

Nice fish!

I might add the best eating too. If mine, I don't think that fish would become table fare. That one would be on the wall.

Congrats!

Thanks for the comments guys. The fish did not go on the wall it was eaten and was really good. This fish is a brute stock that the state lets go. Not a native. I have caught natives bigger just not as pretty as this one. Just sharing for the rest to see.  8)

That is one "hawg" brook trout.  ???  Was it really only 13 inches of water???  I'd think he would be rubbing his top fin off on the ice.   ;D

I cut my teeth fishing for brookies but never caught one that size.  Sure miss sneaking around the small streams and catching enough to cook for lunch over a campfire.

Yes, sir. 13 inches of water. He was in chasing smelts (Baitfish up this way) and just hammered my jig. Brookies like the shallows up this way because of all the food. Thanks for you comments.   8)
