I'm sure many Minnesotans served the Northern Army of Aggression bravely and selflessly.
Too bad.
Because while they were away fighting their brothers in the South the Sioux Indians back home in Minnesota took the opportunity to kill many defenseless men, women and children.
Just another example of the unforeseen consequences Lincoln's disastrous and cruel war.

Same could be said for Texas and the Comanche.

Same could be said for Texas and the Comanche.

But there is a difference - the North was the aggressor.  The South simply wanted to assert it's right to secede and to live peaceably.
It did not seek to invade the North (except when forced to in self-defense), or control the North.
The war which led to many unforeseen evils, such as the Indian attacks along the frontier, was caused by Northern intransigence.

I will not deny the bravery and self-sacrifice of Minnesotans.  But the war launched by the North was not a Just war, by any standard.

RIO
I disagree about the justness. The South was going to come into competition and conflict with the North sooner or later.
The Souths plans were not for a static boundry but for more land/expansion.
