hello everyone,
first time i have posted on this site, been lurking though.
the storyi purchased my son a Taurus tactical for his birthday. the second day home, we began reloading some brass with lead truncated bullets i had purchased earlier. we were having trouble ejecting a loaded round, so seated the bullet a few thousandths to shorten the over all length, and a little harder crimp. we were only reloading 6 at a time and shooting them to see how they preformed. the second batch my son went outside to shoot them, i was inside, and after the first shot i heard my son screaming, ran outside and the gun handle had blown up. the brass ruptured. he was holding his hand, i said let me see your hand he showed me, no blood. thank God. the handle had blown apart in several pieces. my son was not seriously injured, although quite shaken up. we boxed the gun pieces up took it back to the dealer, he sent it in along with a letter describing what exactly had happened, with a pic of the split brass casing. 4 weeks later we got a call from the dealer, that the gun was back. when we went to pic it up, Taurus had sent a brand new pistol back. now that is what i call service excellence.
yes, i thought about all the possibilities of what may have gone wrong. double powder charge, over crimping, seated too deep. we were following the recipe, according to the reloading manual. truth is, will never know exactly what caused the split casing. just wanted to let ya all know about the reliability of Taurus warranty/repair/replacement. excellent.
have a good day tom.............
