What do I have
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:08:01 PM »
Hello everyone,
I am new at this game and I have a few questions any help would be greatly appreciated. I have NEF shotgun ser. no. NB336594 with a pardoner model SB1 20ga barrel. I would like to have a 444 marlin or 500 s&w barrel fitted to the action but I think I read somewhere that they would only fit rifle barrels on SB2's not SB1's but the SB1 is stamped on the barrel not the action sooo?? any chance?
Thanks, TJ

Nope it's all in the Faq's. You can ID your frame by the pictures in the Faq's it's a 1987 model you can also call CS and they will let you know what they will fit to your frame call them at least 3 times to be sure you get the same answer. Kurt

Welcome! What Kurt said, they will fit 357mag and 44mag barrels as well as most shotgun barrels to SB1 frames, but no other rifle barrels, other rifle barrels require SB2 frames, the * marked acc barrels on the acc barrel page require 2000 and later SB2 rifle frames, calling H&R and giving them the serial number will tell you what barrels they'll fit, toll free (866)776-9292.

Ok thanks for the info guys. If I ship my frame NEF to have a barrel fitted do I have to ship through a FFL?

I dont think you have to ship through an ffl since you are not selling it.

Shipping to the factory is not a ffl required shippment. But how you ship it will make or ruin your day. Most here use the U.S. Postal service.  I have read about some lately who did try to ship through UPS and it really gave them fits. So Check in the FAQ and ask a few more questions here. And you will be on the right track in no time  ;)  Welcome "home" you are among good folks here.

Read the instructions on the accessory barrel web page, H&R is an FFL mfr, so no need to have another FFL involved, most members prefer USPS insured, be aware that if going from shotgun to scoped rifle, you may want a different stock, in that case you can send the frame only and order a stock set, the frame will ship in a USPS priority mail small flat rate box for less than $8 insured and be there is 2 days, sometimes 3.

I think I will try to shoot it with maybe a peep sight in the 44 mag. Trying to build a black bear gun I think with the right load it should be a blast. What type of stock did you have in mind? I was thinking of putting a youth stock and having the barrel shortened from 22 to maybe 20 or 18in for a deer rifle for my son when he's ready.

The 22" 44mag barrel doesn't come with sights, so that's another issue you have to deal with, but the 18¾" barrel has sights if they have any left, see the New Accessory Barrels Available sticky for info on the shorter barrel and call to check on availability, don't be discouraged if they say no, they don't always know for sure.

As for stocks, all H&R single shot stocks fit all of their single shots, with the exception for some shotgun barrels, most stocks are listed on the retail parts page of the FAQs.

That 18in barrel would be great. I'll give them a call.
Thanks for all the help. TJ
