  Again; the inmates are running the asylum...happens every time the leftist /marxists take over the top spots.
   The terrorists have snookered the brass...now our military women are going without their ballistic protective helmets..
  Just another brilliant Obama admin plan to raise casualties among our troops...this time, among the women...
         Maybe next month they will declare "sensitivity" toward ballistic vests...and the Obamanites will have our troops take off their body armor.

  What next..take the armor off our vehicles to please the terrorists ?

I'd be thinking that this would be the straw to break my back. Not without a direct order and only until I could return to civilian live asap.

Have they been tested to see if they meet the same standards as the battle helment they should wear ? When in uniform they should dress as they would anywhere else to pass inspection . Off duty and in civilian dress maybe wearing such might keep from drawing unwanted attention but still should be an option.
 Has everyone forgot most came to America to get away from what people do in other parts of the world ?

During the Klinton years I made four trips to the land of the Heathen with the USAF and during that time female airmen were required to wear the hajib and have a male escort at all times when off base.  Heavens knows you don't want to offend the locals.

  Shootall...That was my first thought..Those women are "out of uniform", usually the brass won't stand for that ! Guess it's Ok if they are to be sacrificed to the Taliban..

gr8ful;
  Only a hopelessly confused. leftist administration would cater to that s%&#%$@.  First these Marxists make up new "rules of engagement" that give the enemy a powerful advantage in killing our male troops...now those panty-wetters want to toss the women into the fire..   Man; what will they stoop to next ?
  ...Oh, for a moment I forgot..the commander-in-chief makes it a practice to stoop, bow and scrape to the Muslim dictators..

Though I served under and admired Gen Patraeus when he was  my plt leader so many years ago, I never thought that he would stoop to endorse nor even pass on  a request like this. Dissapointing. Very dissapointing. At least Gen Mcrystal stood fast in his beliefs and would not waver from his convictions. Has he fallen to globalist ideals?

When I traveled thru the ME in more peaceful times long before GWOT...we always pretty much wore local garb. There's alot to be said for blending in when in foreign lands. Nothing wrong with that idea, so long as it doesn't endanger one's life, as it does in this case.

The report said they are 'urged' to wear the garb....not ordered.  Uh-huh..." only 'urged' to wear the garb...not ordered"...I'm guessing you were never in the military...right ?

Urged or requested by the commanding officer means it is an order to the proffesionals.
Women who serve and are in uniform should not wear a hajib. Off duty if they travel through town that is a different story. Personal safety is very important.
When traveling abroad it is better to blend in with the locals. Making yourself an easy target for thieves, pickpockets etc. just does not make sense.

Are you under the impression western women wearing a scarf or even the whole black-out dress would not be recognized by the locals??   Very slim chance IMO!!

US solders wear US uniforms.  If the Muslims don't like it let them fight their own wars.  We have no business being there anyway.

  Wreckhog;
  In all due respect..and I mean that..  Your statements concerning the military makes it clear that you have no military experience. I don't mean that in any abusive way, it's simply that there are certain things we veterans have acquired through training and habit, which make good military sense and are second nature with us.  A civilian or non-veteran may not and  perhaps should not, be expected to understand the nuances we speak of here.

You can't tell what is under a burkha (the black out clothing worn). Believe it or not, in some of the local attire you can't tell who is who. Western women in western dress do stick out but when they dress as the locals do it can be very difficult to tell the difference. Again after hours personal safety should dictate what is worn. You can't expect them to be stuck on the base 24/7.

I think a woman serving in the military should wear her uniform with pride. To require them to wear a hajib is an insult.

Why shouldn't a woman be able to serve her country, is she not a citizen also?

And yes they should fight there own wars and bring our folks home.

Locals do know who locals are, there is no doubt about that but when you are talking about a city of a million with a constant influx of refugees or other misplaced people it isn't always easy to tell who is who. Having been to the middle east, and seen the burkhas you can't tell what is underneath. An average sized man could easily wear one with 20 lbs of explosive.

I know several women in the military, the escort by men and wearing a hajib is very insulting to them. They are proffessionals also.

"Things aren't going all that well in afghanistan"

I believe that to be a bit understated but.......  Appeasing the ghannistan pres. is probably closer to the point. After he said that they would be better off joining the al guida force. That after complaints of US forces breaking into peoples houses looking for weapons and mistreating the residents. Strong arm tactics work so well. Now, we're back to the winning of hearts and minds bravo sierra?  Now I'd rather not have war on our doorstep, but haven't we wore out our welcome? How many armies throughout history tried to "succeed" in afghanistan? Only to have afghanistan remain afghanistan? I do believe that we will leave the same way Britain (x2 now) and Russia did.

  When the BHO took office, Iraq was pretty well settled..we were cutting back and getting ready to exit from Afghanistan and I believe most realized Afghanistan was losing cause..
  Then BHO had to stoke it up again...It's his war now, sure as Libya is his war..

  TM;
  I admit that Bush evidently overestimated the sincereity of such people as Kharzai.  I know he likes to think he can believe the word of other world-class leaders, but obviously they cannot be trusted. Score one against Bush, however, he had already backed away from the Afghan effort, same as he did in Pakistan. Obama had no need to stir the pot again...and certainly no need to place more troops in harm's way along with chaining their hands with PC rules of engagement.
  For you to intimate that  Bush and Obama are one and the same in outlook and end designs, is way off base.   Bush evidently was not fully aware of the deviousness of the Muslim mind, while Obama seems more in line with that mindset (IMO).
  Incidently; this conflict in Afghanistan could have been settled by now, had Obama treated it as WAR..instead of a college poker game.
      You must admit, Musharraf and Kharzai both appeared sincere in their desire to rid their nations of extremism..but alas, gross deception is evidently their 'modus operandi'.  By the time Obama attained the oval office he should have known...

I would like to see all our GIs dress like "Saigon Cowboys" that would send a message to these whinng Moslems.  If everyone was wearing a S&W 29 no one would every look to see what was on their head.
