Been keeping up with this.
You are doing all the right things. You can't find a path around the hurt, you just have to go thru it.
Keep remembering the good times.
Look forward to the good times to come. There will be good times out there.
Blessings

Douglas: I just saw this.  I am deeply, deeply sorry for your loss. I met you and Katherine only the once at your home in Virginia. The rapport that the two of you shared was electric and obvious even to a casual acquaintance like myself.
You will find a way to go on, I have no doubt, though the hurt now - I am in tears - is deep.

Double D, I'm new here and I just read this. I am sorry for your loss. They say that God never gives us more than we are able to handle, but I wonder sometimes if this is true. I could tell by your post that you are a man of faith. That will get you through this... keep talking to God. Prayers on their way.

This is a rough part of the road. I can barely imagine how you  cope. :(  I've got my 30th coming up and my wife is under strict orders not to depart this world ahead of me.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

I have been married to my loving woman since NOvember 10, 1972.  We were both 18 years old.  We have been through it all together from making 98 every two weeks in the Navy and dragged her all over the world in my 22 year career.  I can not think of life without her.  I will keep you in my prayers.

We lost my Momma this year, also very sudden. Her and Daddy had been together for 64 years. They didn't travel much but were AS ONE. He is doing much BETTER than we ever imagined. Stay strong and God will see you through. You and your entire family will be in our prayesrs.
God Bless

April 3rd marked  one year since my favorite gopher hunting partner and wife of 44 years died.

With her 10-22 cut down to a 10 1/2 inch length of pull and 10 loaded spare magazines she was the terror of the gopher patch.

April 3rd my friend Ernie and I went to my wife's favorite hunting spots and shoot gophers in her memory.  I know she would have loved the idea. We could feel her presence in our heart.  We will try to do this every April 3rd from now on.

July 26, we, her son, our son, our daughter and our our 3 granddaughters  placed my Wife, Katherine's remains in her Grandfathers grave.

It was a very emotional moment for me. It is very hard to put a 44 year relationship behind you and relegate it to a memory.

After the internment of her ashes I took all our kids and grand-kids out for Pizza and we had a wonderful time. While we were eating I told everyone that this very same pizza parlor is where I took Katherine on our very first date. It made that first date more special, and this sad day less painful.
