I have this great mule footed hog that I raised since he was about 40lbs, and he is over 220lbs. now. The other day he got out and lured him back to the pen with a piece of bread. I got in the pen (I've done it at least a hundred times), and repaired his escape route. As I was walking out he nudged me really hard on my right leg, he is always playing around hitting me with his head looking for a pat. Well this time I had short pants on and I just ignored it, but I smelled him musk and that caused me a little concern. When I got out of the pen my little boy screamed "dad your leg". I looked down and saw blue black colored blood spurting out. It happened so quick I did not know I'd been hit. I have been around feral hogs since I was 10yoa, and have been caught at least twice. To make a long story short, I went to the hospital, got about 40 stiches and had a vein cauterized. My lesson learned is that a feral hog is as unpredicaple as a so-called pet lion or tiger, they can hurt you in a heart beat. Next time I have to deal with him I will not be as casual. But I have no bad feelings toward him, he was doing what all wild animals do when they are confined.
