New .44 Tracker (4 inch)
« on: April 06, 2011, 05:14:49 PM »
Well I jumped in to the taurus ring today via a trade. I had a nice Redhawk but it was just too big for my use. I hunt here in Indiana with a .44 rifle  (we're only allowed certain calibers) and wanted to carry a like caliber revolver in case one should get close. As stated the Redhawk was nice but with the 7 1/2 inch barrel, it was just too big. So I traded it and got a brand new .44 tracker. Took it to range and put about 50 light loads through it just to check functionality. Seems to be a nice piece. Of course felt recoil is much more with it and when I fired 5 hot loads, it really barked. I like the size of the package and it will be absolutely perfect for my use. Will continue to shake it out and get sights adjusted. So far so good.......

I hope someone answers you.  I just ordered a Taurus 44 with a 6 1/2 inch barrel.  It was a Sports South Exclusive.  I hope it works out for what I want.  I wanted a 44 special revolver but most of the specials were higher than the 44 mags.

I have the 4" Tracker that I got to carry when goin lite.  Yes they bark, but used less than carried.  The only thing I have had to watch was the screw on the cylinder release has come loose.  Not unusual on a firearm, watch you use the right screwdriver when you tighten them up so you don't bugger up a screw.  Only had to tighten it once, if it happens again, a drop of blue loctite will be applied.  DP

Went out this morning and put another 40 rounds through it. Shooting really well. Got the sights pretty well set. I was using my pet load of a 240 gr keith style over 7.5 gr of trailboss. A nice gentle load. Still have the same bullet over 23.5 gr of H110 when heavy duty needed. Hope I don't have to shoot many of those, unless it's at a big buck or doe!!!!

I bought one a few months, i am well pleased.  I had heard good and bad about Taurus's, but took a leap.  I have not shot mine much.  I run a few specials thru it cci gold dots.  They were easy to shoot.  Then I tried some federal 180 grainers, midway usa list them at 1610 fps, from what barrel length i don't know.  Man did they BARK.

I also shot a few cci shot shells thru it,  pattern wasn't that bad at 3 yards or so.  Then I went to my old light load, 14 grains of the old 2400 and a 250 grain cast bullet.  I use 22 grains in my colt.  I don't plan on using that load in the tracker.  I think the book says a 240 grainer at 1200 fps?

I bought the tracker for a trail gun, to cover the field. From snakes to hogs, by the way I shot a snake with the shotshell, they work.
