« on: April 07, 2011, 09:09:01 PM »
Well almost , We finished our journey  this evening , arrived home @ 6PM . Unloaded the VW wagon and DD'S Steel for his KISS Bowling Ball Mortar .

The VW gave a sigh of relief as the big honk'n steel rolled out the back hatch . The rear end rose 3 inches . ::)
We had been draging bottom from Chino , Ca. to Tacoma , Wa. back down to Portland ,Or. up the Columbia river to Lewiston , Id.  Down the white Bird Pass to White Bird , Back up the hill to Lolo pass to McDonald Pass , to Gt Falls and the run home today .
 Great trip. 8)

DD is getting to be a real steel hoarder.  I just bought another three foot piece of 3 1/2" tubing for him today.

That's a good practice.  My alarm goes off at 0500.  Most, but not all the time, I get up then.

The tornado that hit here (Pulaski) missed our house.  (THANKS, Lord)  Hmmm.  Two weeks ago an earthquake, this week a tornado ....

Tornado!!!!  You do need to get out and drive the roads and see how many white oak logs you can scout up.

I have made a connection to get a couple after the next storm.  Look around for a sawmill in your area and talk to them getting it cut into rough planks for latter project.

I had one 8ft.  log that I got free that was cut into  2 inch nominal rough cut boards  that produced 750  Bdft. Cost  $30 for the flat back tow truck to haul the log to the sawmill and another $30 for the sawmill to cut it up.  I was expecting it to cost way more than that. At $1.50 a BdFt for rough cut notty white oak lumber that is $1125 worth of lumber for $60.  You have one of the boards..

Are there any pictures of this steel in Montana, say with the Sweetgrass Hills in the back ground as proof!

It's a mess now.  Fortunately for us the path of destruction missed us.  Curfew.  Boiling the water.  And, yes, I'm still at work.

OK Proof Positive it's here ! 8)

Only one problem ...It settled on the way home . The top side slid to the bottom side from all the bumps over curbs gutters , drive ways, etc. One side is 1/8 " thinner than the other . The top flowed to the bottom . :o

In the picture it's the left side  that was the top .  ;)

AMEN to that!

Volvo (the heavy truck assembly plant) is just starting up their 2nd shift - 700 folks here going back to work.

actually in the used truck market Volvo's are the cheapest to buy , followed by freightliner.
Being they are made in the good old USA the quality is ok but the sure do depreciate in value fast . :(

You need to fix the A/C in that car before you drive it again.  If the steel settled like that, it was WAY too hot!!! :o

Well we were towing the car with the Motor home . With the front end up on the car dolly the tail was a dragin . AC works fine  but  with all the steel in the car there was no room for passengers . ::)

Oh, you can fix that offset barrel in the lathe.

Seamless tubing is not always perfectly symmetrical.  But he does have to bore it before a bowling ball will fit.
