Pre 64 question.(what...again?)
« on: April 08, 2011, 04:52:48 PM »
I mite have found a pre 64 win. mod. 70 in 243 today, its in exteremly good shape with only very few marks on teh stock (you realy have to look to find'em) and the blue'n is near mint, but ther ask'n $1,000 cash.

As far as the pre 64s go I dont know beans about'em, this monster has a aluminum strip at the butt plate and the reciver looks to be a matte fininsh but the barrel has a very nice polished bluing, does this sound liek a pre 64 to you dyed in th ewool winchester guys, or is the store owner try'n to put the screws to me ?

It would be nice to have a serious Winchester tp put up and maybe pass down to the next generation...maybe.

Any other info would be helpful.

It sounds like it might be a Featherweight, and worth the $$$.

Check the SN - No pre-64 has a letter prefix; post-64 SN's start at SN 700,000, then end at 925, 908 before adding a letter prefix (G).

If the SN is below 700,000 w/o a letter prefix, it's pre-64.
