I have just taken my 209x50 barrel off my encore and have put the stainless 26" heavy barrel on.The setup is black synthetic stock 300 win mag caliber. I am going to sight the gun in what type of recoil can I expect from this caliber in the encore. :grin:

Don't have a .300 Win Mag bbl for my Encore. But I do have a .300 Win Mag bolt gun that weighs 17 pounds, and I don't shoot it off the bench without a sissy pad.

444Encore, are you just joking about the weight of the gun or are you actually serious? Maybe a typo :? ? I did the math, and a 17 pound gun shooting 180 grain Win Mag loads should only recoil about as much as a .30-30 from an Encore. So it leads me to believe something is amiss? Im not trying to pick on you at all, so please do not think Im poking fun at you. Im just curious. Im thinking of someday getting a .375 H&H mag barrel for the Encore Im purchasing (because its a joke me and my Uncle have going about squirrel guns and such.....I know, an expensive joke

.) But the ONLY way Im going to shoot this thing is with a modified buttstock that has a three pound lead weight in it. Even with a 10 pound gun it should be like shooting a 450 Marlin in a standard weight Encore :eek: !

There is no typo. But perhaps I should elaborate a little more.
First off this rifle's stock has zero drop at the comb so it recoils strait back.
There is no muzzle rise to absorb felt recoil. Also the butt pad is hard rubber, zero cushion. This rifle is not bad to shoot off hand, but from the bench your body doesn't move as much to absorb felt recoil.
Put all this together with the fact that every time I go to the range I shoot 40 to 50 rounds through this gun , anyone with nerves in their shoulder would want a sissy pad.
It really start's to bruise after ten rounds or so without. :x

OK, thats fair. I can understand now that you elaborated. After 100 rounds or so through my Uncles SKS and my shoulder starts getting that achy feeling. He has the origional metal buttpad on there. I never thought a smaller intensity cartridge like the 7.62x39 could hurt that much considering the trigger time I had with a Marlin .30-30. But again the Marlin had a good recoil pad and a better drop at comb

I have the same setup but my barrel is blued with the 4-port mag-na-port and a Simmons Aetec scope. The felt recoil to me is nothing - the gun is a real pleasure to shoot. For me, shooting a 30-30 Winchester lever gun or my 300 Savage Model 99 is MUCH worse. Hope this helps.

Thanx Duval on my gun I do not have the muzzle brake do you think it would make that much of a difference. :grin:

I have the same setup, SS Encore w/ 300 win mag barrel. It is turning into my favorite barrel for medium to large game. I have barrels in 243 for deer and a unfired 30-06 ( 2 years old) that just sit. I would not add a muzzle brake , the noise increase is worse than the recoil. Unless you intend hunting with ear muffs. Use a sissy pad at the bench to stop any bad flich habits . I have had both wood and composite stocks and the composite seem to absorb the recoil better. I was told " if you can't handle the recoil get something smaller".

I have and shoot the 300 mag encore in 26 inch, blue, heavy barrel without a break. I like the gun 100%. The only thing that I would caution you about is... If you are a person who has a habit of creaping up toward the scope when you are shooting the scope will "bite" you right between the eyes unless you have a lot of eye relief. I went to a 6 X 40 Leupold fixed power because I was forever getting whacked between the eyes. Of course I do the same thing with all heavy recoiling rifles, I have the scare tissue to prove it.
