Leupold QR mounts

Anybody have any experience with these?  What height rings does it take to clear the hammer and rear sight on an Encore 209x50?  The Leupold mount selector says LOW rings, but I'm skeptical about the clearance.

It's going to depend upon the scope you use, but no way would I go lower than mediums.  To clear the rear sight depends more on the build of the scope.  I have a Millett Buck Gold 3x9x44 on a 209x45 in hi rings.  That combo clears the rear sight and allows cocking without a hammer extension.  I generally like to set a scope as low as possible but that one doesn't seem too high.  My other 209x45 has the rear sight removed and wears medium height rings.

Sorry about that UC.  I left out that I'm using a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 on my 209x50.  I agree on the low as possible.  I want just enough to cock the hammer and be able to leave on my rear sight.  I've got  a set of Warne Maxima mediums, but had to send the base back.  It had a high spot between the mount holes.  These rings and base are about right in height, but I was going to look at a set of Leupold QR's this weekend to see if I like them.

The Leupold QRs are nothing more than the Warne 7.3 series with Maxima QR levers on them.  They look to be made by Warne.  I like the Maxima rings better mainly because the 7.3/Leupold QR top ring must be spread apart to fit over the scope tube, easily damaging the finish of the scope. Not really enough room for the Weaver "dollar bill" technique.

Hmm, I've NEVER had to spread the top ring half to install the Leupolds.  I think they are more streamlined than the Warne, lighter weight, and just as dependable.  I own both and prefer the Leupolds.

Chuck, you ain't mounting 26mm scopes in Leupold 1" are you?

If I'm not mistaken, it's the Leupold QR"W" that looks like the Warne 7.3.  The QRW has to have the top ring spread to go over the scope.  Leupold's website says it pops over the scope tube.  The Leupold QR's are the horizontal split rings. The top caps of the rings look like the DD series.  I could be wrong, I'll have to go back and look again.

QRWs was what I was thinking about.  So, I left out a "w".  I actually wasn't aware Leupold still made the old style QR rings/bases.  That's what I have on the Black Diamond.  I like those TOO.  The ORIGINAL reason I started using the "weaver-styled" bases/rings was so I could mount a "Ghost Ring" sight.  Remember those days?  Also it seems there are WAY more "weaver-styled" bases available than the QR.

SO....The Leupold QRW(Quick Release WEAVER I suppose) are the same ring as the Warne 7.3 with quick detach levers.  The Leupold QR are their own entity.

Chuck, I can put you onto some White 91, 98, W-series Leupold two piece QR bases at a good price.   :-)

No sarcasm meant there, Big6x6.  Yeah, the QRW's sure look like the Warne 7.3's.  Leupold's website doesn't list the QRW's to fit the Encore when you use their mount selector.  It only lists QR's and DD's.  Have a good one!

Speaking of the QRW's, the top half of the ring does have to snap over the tube.  I have yet to damage any of the scopes finishes and I have 5 sets.  I did have my first "failure" yesterday, if you can call it that.  I had hunted and bagged a nice female red fox, and a nice Tom turkey.  Got home to clean the gun and when I was done, I went to re-install the scope.  I was tightening the rear thumb lever when the bolt or screw, whichever you want to call it, sheared off flush with the side of the bottom of the ring.  No way to change out the bolt or extract it either.  I had to take my back-up Super 91 to the edge of the woods today and fire a total of 7 rounds to have it on perfect zero.  I had never shot this gun and just had put the scope on it.  Took a nice raccoon this evening with it.  But it was a first on the bolt breakage from Leupold.  I guess I'll have to see what they will do for me the first of the week.
