Alabama Counties and CCW
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:21:52 AM »
I understand that permit issuance is a county sheriff function in Alabama, and some are friendlier about it than others.

I am considering a move to the Birmingham or Tuscaloosa areas.  How are the sheriffs there about CCW permits?

Alabama is a "shall issue" state. If your record is clean, there shouldn't be any problem. Be advised that all counties have their own fees...And Barbour County went up last year... :'(

Got one a couple of weeks ago in Bessemer (Jefferson Co).

Get a form from the Sheriff's office or any gun store.
Get 3 local people to sign your form as references.
Drop it off at the Sheriff's Office.
As long as you don't put some wacko reason for wanting it, or you or any of those 3 people don't have criminal records, you can come back in 3 or 4 days with $7.50 and leave with your license.
"Self-defense" is enough reason to get one.

Its harder to get a drivers license.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

Found out Tuscaloosa County has a 6 month residency requirement.

I am looking in Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, and Bibb counties right now.....

Forgive my Michigan ignorance, but if Alabama is a shall issue "state" then wouldn't Tuscaloosa counties ordinance be unlawfull?
