Ruger Redhawk grip question
« on: April 10, 2011, 01:42:44 PM »
I would like to querry the board for some opinions. I went shooting with my Ruger Redhawk in 44 magnum that has the Hogue compact grips installed on it. It is a neat looking package but I did notice one thing when shooting off the bench, it hurts my trigger finger. It seems that the grip forces your trigger finger up abnormally high so when the gun is in recoil the back of the trigger rubs the side of your trigger finger rather violently.

What I would like to know is what do you consider to be the best grip for the Redhawk for hunting loads. Thank you.

Hogue Tamer....hands down.  I use it on my SRH in 480ruger (same grip as RH).  Man it helps when I shoot 375gr hard cast at 1200!

I agree completely , ........All my double action Rugers wear a Hogue Tamer grip.  However , seems Hogue makes two styles.  My SRH 454 came with a Hogue Tamer..........I ordered a different one , has a blue insert in it , really helped.  Is even better than the OEM.  Sorry don't know which is which.  I know Midway sells both styles.  Try one out , they do work !

Your probably right , Drdoug.  I could only really remember that Hogue makes two that " look" very much alike.  As I said before my SRH came with one, the "other" one that I bought from Midway looks just like it.  But is much better than the OEM Hogue.  If the Tamer has the blue insert , Whats the other one called ?....Anyway they do work...

Hey Irold,

The standard grip is called the "Soft Rubber Monogrip", product #800000.  The  soft rubber monogrip TAMER has a product number 800020.

Hogue only makes 2 rubber grips that will fit the Redhawk.

Different story for the Super and Blackhawk. I have the Monogrip and do not like them because they are too narrow and create pressure on the knuckles of my fingers and the heal of my hand. I cannot even feel the grip at the palm. I am going to post a question in the Ruger section to see if anyone has the Bantam grips and how they like them. They seem to have more palm swell when looking at the pictures.

Thanks!!
