Capitalism is the system that works.
It most efficently employes the natural resources, the labor and money.
With the tax code favoring one enterprise over another we are not a true capitalist system.
And while not perfect it still is the best system.
Yes it makes rich people wealthier it also raises the standard of living by leaps and bounds.
While we have always been able to feed ourselves we now feed the world, we have so much excess that we even have Organic and small plot foods (nothing wrong with this and proof our system works, where there is a demand there will be a supply and on the flip side of it where there is a supply and no demand, those companies will end and those resources will be turned into making other demanded products that will lower the costs and the price of those demanded goods.)
Other than fossil fuels are viable ways to fuel our economy but the recources needed to grow them are going to be taken from growing other items and those costs will increase.
With OPEC setting supply limits from each member nation and demand growing of course the prices will rise. If we can introduce other supplies, then the prices will fall. Until.... We hit the refinery stage. We need to build more refineries. Since the 70's our economy has doubled, our population has increased and the fuel wizzards have been able to squeeze more out of the production we have, but we need more and having it made in Mexico is not the answer as they too are trying to grow their economy and need cheap fuel to do it and will cut corners and pollute where we can not here.
