Winchester model 12 problem
« on: April 11, 2011, 05:00:23 PM »
As unheard of as it is, I have a problem with a winchester model 12.

The tube mag does not hold shells.  When ever I load one through the bottom, it wants to ride the spring right back out the loading gate.  If I push it up far enough then pull my finger our fast enough it just pushed back into the action on top of the loading gate.  If i push it up into the tube, then let it out real soft and kinda feather it out a bit and wiggle it around until it finally catches some times I can get it to load one in the tube.  If I get it to catch, and get cocky and try to load two in the tube, It never works, and then the first pops back out.

So by now you know, my question is, what is worn out/broken/missing so that I can't load the mag tube and get them to hold there?

Any help or links to where I can buy replacement parts, springs etc would be awesome.  Thanks folks...

well maybe I spoke too soon.  I googled "winchester model 12 loading problem" and found many, many identical threads on "shotgunworld.com".  It sounds like this is normal and I just didn't quite figure it out.  Anyone out there agree or disagree?

Call Simons gun repair in Olathe, Kansas.  They made their name working on Model 12s, and they still do a bunch of work there.  Google tells me the number is (913) 782-3131.

Just a forewarning.  Last time I was in there I wanted to switch the safety on my 26" improved M12 to left handed.  They went through their usual shtick... Oh, we might not even have that (they always have it).  Oh, well it'll be 6 weeks at least.  Well, do you have cash?  They had it installed and I was out of there in 15 minutes...  You've got to work on them a bit...

I've also just bought parts from them if I know what is wrong.
