Marlin model 36 locked up.
« on: April 12, 2011, 05:02:53 AM »
Took the old Marlin 36 (1946) to the range to try out the Leverevolution ammo. I loaded 3 into the mag. fired one, and when I attempted to eject, it locked in the open position. "No jam" The second round came up and I was able to extract it, and the third round is still in the magazine.

The lever is locked in the extended position ??? ???
This is the old square bolt Marlin, and my local gunsmith said he was unfamiliar with them, but would take a look at it.. Any Marlin owners on here that have had a similar problem to deal with?

Despite the square bolt, they work pretty much the same as every other Marlin CF levergun - I would check the the loading gate isn't fouling the lifter, either from losing it's spring tension (buy a new one from Numrich) or a loose screw (disassemble & tighten).

Also, the locking bolt could be sticking in the "up" position, blocking the breechbolt's travel.

Sounds like the loading gate screw is loose.  Be careful not to over tighten it.  They break.

Thanks for the info fellows! I had a guy look at it, and unlock it. He said it was pretty dirty and cleaned it up. I'll try it tomorrow and see how it performs.

that is exactly what happened to mine..... loose screw......  few turns of the screwdriver and it works like a charm.
