Truck camper jacks..rotted mounting area
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:11:32 AM »
I have an older truck camper with four corner mounted jacks. 3 of the corners are rotted and the jacks arent as secure as they should be ( rotted wood / stripped out screw holes = wobbly 2000lbs 40 inches high in the air

Does anyone know of any pages that show how to rebuild these corners or "redneck rig" something to keep the jacks secure?

Also, is there any type of adapter that changes the corner mount jacks to UNDER the camper mount? Hard to explain but basically Im wondering if there is something that allows me to mount like the Reico Titans do from underneath.

Any other ideas are GREATLY welcome. Even alternative ways of getting it on and off the truck. I hate these jacks

THANKS !!

Look at www.stablelift.com and also look at www.dyersonline.com they both have awesome parts and possibly an idea to fix your problem. My neighbor had a early 80's truck camper and he took it to the local state tech and had aluminum corner braces that went under as well as up two sides at each corner made by students then mounted the jacks to them. Hope this helps

Try a penetrating epoxy in the wood.  I am familiar with "Git Rot" but a Google search also brought this up which may be better: http://www.rotdoctor.com/L/BoatL/bQA123.html

I once had an old boat that I was going to mount a new motor on.  The wood under the aluminum skin in the transom was getting soft, and I was not sure it would hold.  I went to a local welding shop, and had them make an aluminum bracket the folded over the transom.  It distributed the weight of the motor, and worked well.

Point being, you could probably have something similar done with your camper, maybe a folded diamond plate that runs along the sides of the camper, with the lift brackets attached to it, something that will distribute the weight.
