I spray everything down with CLP(dont due if you have night sights) Then take a toothbrush to the internals to get the crud out.  Spray a bit down the barrel and run the boresnake down a few times wich for me has enough lube in it for the barrel as i shoot it quite often.  Then I use a gun grease..cant remmeber the name but i think its hoppes brand and put a few small dabs on the slide rails and put a few dots on the outside of the barrel and smear it around with my finger.  Install slide back on and rack a few times to make sure the grease gets on the whole rail and im done.  I also dont clean my glocks except for about every 500 rounds unless they are going to sit in the safe more that a month between shooting.  Glocks seem to run better dirty :)

You don't need to get fancy and spend lots of money for cleaning supplies. Get a basic pistol cleaning kit.  For cleaning, Hoppes does the trick.  Use a drop of gun oil on each of the rails, a couple on the  barrel, wipe the other parts with a patch or rag that has gun oil on it, and your set.  Just make sure you don't over lube the gun.

I prefer Rem Oil spray for all of my firearm cleanings, works great and doesn't leave an oily film like hopps or clp does, but still offers the same or better protection. For my rails just a little Lucas gun oil on a qtip. No particular reason why I use the Lucas other than it was something I got for free at a shoot.

I remember reading in a gun magazine where this writer had shot 14,000 rounds out of his Model 17 and had never cleaned it and never had any kind of failure. At least that is what he wrote.

That was something I noticed in the owners manual of my G20. The only Glock I have...so far!
It spacifically said to NOT use grease on the gun. Only a light amount of good quality gun oil.

I noticed that as well but the problem for me is that on my carry guns the light oil makes a mess even if u only use a but. The grease doesn't not and after 6 years greasing my hen 1 I've had no problems...most owners manuals also say never to shoot reloads but that hasn't stopped me yet. I think it has something to do with petroleum based greases and affecting the polymer frame but the stuff I use is synthetic. Tetra gun is also what I use I looked yesterday.
