I was planning to eventually mount a 2 X power scope on my Super Redhawk in .454 Casull, it came with the 2 factory rings.

I was watching some You Tube videos and there was a fellow who was mounting his revolvers with the B-square mount, it looks like this would be more adjustable with the picatinney rail setup for the 3 X 7 scope he was using.  The .44 magnum just screwed on ok, but the .454 Casull apparently needs to have the rear sight removed with an additional anti-slip pin going in the recess there.  I suspect that the .454 must kick harder.

I will mostly use upper loaded .45's for hunting, with some .454 factory loads as an option for long shots, the bulk of my target shooting being done with regular 45 long colts.  Are the factory rings adequate to hold the scope in place shooting the .454 Casull loads, or will I need the B-square and have to remove the rear sights?

I have learned the hard way with my rifles that it is best to keep the scope as small as possible to avoid ring slippage on hard kicking guns. I don't see the point in mounting a 3 X 7 scope on a handgun.

Would I be better off with a 2 power scope or a 4 power, I want to keep my shooting inside 150 yards?
Thanks

Chris, Freedom Arms recommends the Bushnell Elite 3200 for their 454 Casull revolvers because they have found them to be the only scope that has tolerated the recoil for extended shooting.  A co-worker of mine bought a FA in 454 and didn't get the Bushnell but ofted for a Luepold handgun scope and the Luepy didn't hold up to the recoil.   The Elite pistol scope is made with 2X-6X magnification but you wouldn't have to use the higher magnification if you didn't want to.  I think the rings supplied from Ruger should be sufficient for mounting a scope.

Hey Chris,  I went with a 4X Leupold on my Ruger SRH .454.  I am using the factory rings as well, no problems so far and I shoot mostly .454s.  It is possible to lock the factory rings down pretty tight. I also considered the Bushnell scope but like the lighter weight and shorter length of the Leupold.  Either scope is a fine choice for the .454.
