Gents and Madams,

Loading originally designed Black Powder Cartridge Cases with SMOKELESS powder is being well covered for the more popular calibers via currently available loading manuals.

Reviewing the most current editions of existing load manuals in my Library causes the following examples:

Barnes #3, .45-70 in Trapdoor and Marlin 1895 with jacketed bullets only.

Hodgdon #27, .38-55, .44-40 and .45-70.

Hornady sixth edition, .25-20, .25-35, .32-20, .38-55, .405 Win, .44-40 and .45-70.

Lapua, 1st edtion, nothing found.

LEE Second Edition, .32-20, .38-55, .38-40, .40-65, .44-40, .43 Spanish and .45-70.

Lyman #48, .32-20, .40-65, .40-70 Straight, .44-40, .45-70, .45-90, .45-100, .45-110 and .45-120.

Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook, third edition, .32-20, .32-40, .38-40, .38-55, .44-40, .45-70, .50-70, .50-90 Sharps and .50-140 Sharps.

NOBEL VECTAN, .32-20, .32-40, .38-40, .44-40 and .45-70.

Nosler fifth edition, .45-70 jacketed bullets only.

Sierra #V, .45-70 jacketed bullets only.

Speer #13, .32-20, .38-40, .44-40 and .45-70.

VihtaVuori, 2nd edition, .25-20, .25-35 and .45-70.

From all outward appearances there are plenty of SMOKELESS powder references for both lead and jacketed bullets readily avialable.  Most of these companies represented also have websites with available information that aligns with what is available in printed mauals.

IMO, anyone who does not own at least one reloading manual and chooses to find their reload data on the Internet may need to reassess the information being received and revisit their budget to find some room for inclusion of much needed reference material.

If you will note the information you provided there is but a single company - Lyman, that provides a significant source of data for cast bullets propelled by smokeless. However one company that you left out,
Accurate Arms also provides a significant amount of data especially for 5744 including data for the .50-70, .50-90 and .50-140.
However, finding data is not a substitute for discussion with other KNOWLEDGABLE shooters that have had success developing accurate loads.

Ed,

You're right.  Managed to leave out the Accurate #2 Manual.

Accurate #2, .25-20, .32-20, .32-40, .38-40, .38-55, .40-65, .44-40, .45-90, .45-110, .45-120, .50-70, .50-90, .50-110 and .50-140.

But, also left out a considerable amount of Books that are quasi load manuals to say the least.  Examples being "Shooting Lever Guns of th Old West by Mike Venturino, Big Bore Rifles and Cartridges (magazine article reprints) compiled by Wolfe, Metallic Cartridge Reloading 3rd edition, by M.L. McPherson, RCBS (out of print) Cast Bullet Manual number 1, The Art of Bullet Casting (another magazine article reprint compilation) by Wolfe, The NRA Handloader's Guide and the two Handloader's Bullet Making Annuals by Wolfe.  The list is actually endless.............

The accumulated library of my fifty plus years of frivolous spending on gun, shooting, loading and bullet casting related books, magazines and now the internet are no match for a great conversation with persons of knowledge, a library and the desire to share.

Sharing is what life is all about.  Learning never ceases.

To often on the Internet information is read by persons of little experience and than repeated as if it is the gospel.  Hopefully, intelligent and knowledgeable persons can successfully weed out this often repeated and non-experienced information that has a way of taking on a life of it's own..

Well I don't consider it that frivolous - not if it is a REAL necessity. I consider shooting and loading a form of preventative treatment for what ails you.  Still I have to make do with a hard to disassemble and clean rifle until I can find  a good deal on a Sharps or RRB.  Then I will be able to venture into BP loading.
