The world NEEDS yet another brand of 1911, the 25-30 brands we already have is surely not enough.    ;D
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

It's on the Ruger website, & Gunblasts has done an article - MSRP is $799, street price ought to be $650-700.

It's the 44th different Model 1911 brand "introduced", it's a Series 70 type, AND it's made in the USA, unlike the Springfield(s).

Economics at work.
See a popular product and more people will enter the market to provide that good.
Drives the prices down usually.  So that Kimber, Colt, Springfield, Sig, Or who ever's 1911 you have your eye on and want to add to your collection, range bag, or waist band another maker entering the market may just make your wish list a little cheaper.
Still want to know when Ruger is going to make a side by side rifle.

Just because Ruger "HAS" it on their website, and somebody got, "ONE" (1), to do a test with, Does not necessarily mean you and I will ever see one. It has happened before. But just in case you do, see one out there, grab it, as something may go wrong and they will cease production and you will have "ONE" (1). After all we are talking Ruger here Remember.   ;)

Oh ye of little faith.   I'm pretty sure that Ruger has a bunch of them ready for sale.  I figure that by the time my birthday rolls around in September, there will be one in my gun safe or on my hip. :D

Well, the one pictured is  #23XX so there's at least that many frames numbered.   I spoke with some reps in 2009 and at that time they were trying to decide which parts to source out for and which to make in-house.  Spoke to reps in 2010 and it was almost nothing said.  That raised my curiousness.  Two were at SHOT but only a few selected folks got the look.  Knew it was coming but thought it would be the NRA show they'd make their announcement.
The 1911 isn't a biggie of mine but I will likely end up with one of these eventually.   I do believe there's already distributor editions already in the works so maybe i'll hold off 'til then.  I'd prefer blued anyways.

Waiting to see how much Buds wants for one of these :).  I'm thinking I will wait until later in the year (possibly November or so), but I WILL be buying one of these before the year is out.  I don't want a commemorative version specifically, but I do want some form of 1911 built in 2011.  I don't want a Colt, but the Ruger allows me an American made option at a price I can manage, and if I get one of these then I'm managing to get a 1911 built on the 100th anniversary of the design, and of the 1st year of production for the Ruger version specifically.  Doubly special. :D

Sold my 1991A1 Colt last year and said I was out of the 45 ACP business. 9mm only.
Now a Ruger

People used to ask me when I was going to get a 1911, I used to say when Sig made them thinking they would never make one, then I said when Ruger makes them, too figuring they would never make one.
Guess I need to now buy a 1911.

Why not support your local shop rather than be an anonymous name without a face to Bud's?   Sure might cost a few dollars more but isn't having a local shop worth it?  Helping support the local area rather than the big guy far away?

Not really.  The guy who does my transfers is only in the transfer business - he doesn't do sales.  Buds has far cheaper prices so as a staunch capitalist, they get my business :).  No sense in propping up a business that can't compete in the market.  I'm a child of the internet generation anyways - there's very little that I don't buy online.  I'd be much more disappointed to see Buds go away than my "local shop". ;)

Now if I could just get one with an ambi thumb safety...I am a Southpaw.  I could always buy one and have a smith throw an ambi on it...Yup, that should work.

Maybe Ruger will get a real auto pistol at last. They are going to copy a Colt. Ruger was and is built on Colt Copies.  Their own pistols are not copied by anyone. :(

Meh - that applies to a lot of companies though.  The 1911 is an old design that people like and has no patents still valid attached to it.  At this point just about all the big guys make a 1911 variant.  Their own designs are still good guns.  Heck just personally I consider the SR9 to be one of the best polymer pistols on the market.

Picked up one of the SR1911 pistols yesterday.  I'll post pictures and some info later today.

Fit and finish are great.

I plan on buying one,but I agree, I would much prefer blued. However,I expect a good gun from Ruger,so if it lives up to my expectation Ill live with the stainless.

I'd like one in the original blue as God intended please...Bud's is my local gunshop.  Everybody in there has a face, oddly enough, including the hot blonde behind the counter.... :P

Gent I shoot with at range bought one recently....$600 something plus, and I and another shooter had opportunity to handle it.  We both agreed, it was a nice pistol.....both of us were impressed with its trigger pull, which was surprisingly light to both of us.  Nice finish and fit to the Ruger.
