I have been running a Kawasaki Mule on my farm for 10 years and it is a great work unit.Now in Wisconsin ATV trails are being opened to side by sides.So I am looking for something a little more ridable.I have been thinking Diesel as I hear the bigger gas engines are only getting 8 to 10 miles a gallon.If anyone has experience with side by sides please share it with me.Thanks ahead, Huntz

my rzr has gotten as good as 14mpg if i take it easy on it. Problem with a diesel utv is none of them really have the speed, handling or ride for any kind of trail riding with a group of atvers unless its a ride organized by the old folks home. the 850 rangers and yamaha rhinos are about the best compromise if a guy wants to trial ride and use it for some real work occasionaly.

Thanks Lloyd.I guess if I probably found something that would do about 35MPH I would be happy.I doubt I will do any group riding.I will use it more for Hunting and fishing.Being able to use the trail system is a plus for getting closer to good trout streams.

for those uses id look hard at the 450 rhino. My buddy has one and loves his. Doesnt have alot of top end speed but he says it has lots of low end power.

I have a 2008 750 Ranger and haven't had a lick of trouble with it aside from keeping the tires up. I have about 1500 miles on it and have put it through the ringer...

As stated above, the diesels that I know of are very slow.... The Kubota I tested went 25mph... And while you may not want to go fast, you don't want to have it at max rpm all the time either.

So now we are going to have to register the utility vehicles.... Great....

good point when looking at the speed you need. One of my buddy who has a 660 rhino rides with two of us with rzrs. His rhino goes about 43 and thats just fast enough to pace us on logging roads but hes bumping off the rev limiter all the time and our rzrs are just loafing along. If you think you have a need to go a certain speed add 10mph on to it so that you can actually drive at your speed. you drive down the road in your car at 55 but would you want a car that topped out at 55 that had to be run with the peddle on the floor all the time.

i never really considered that.Of course my Mule is governed,so I can run it all day petal to the metal and it doesn't hit 2,800 RPM.Lucky to get up to 25MPH down hill with a good tail wind!!!!

I see that the North Dakota equipment mfg BobCat makes a couple models.
If there side by side holds up near as good as the rest the Bob Cat line of equipment they should be pretty dependable units.

i looked at them.They are super heavy duty.The diesel weighs 2,000 lbs. and the gas around 1,600.Ideal for work,but not so good off road.

A paving conteacter came into town & had 3 of these Ingersol Rand side by side's one has 15" radial Auto tires and when I was taking the pic of the rim I noticed the Diesel fuel only fuel cap.

have you guys looked at the new artic cat wildcat side by side. Do a search on it. Its pretty wild. 95 hp and it looks like a baja race buggy.

Check out the John Deere Gator XUV 625i or if you wanna go faster get the 825i or do heavy real work with the 855 diesel. After a little less than 50 hours on my 625i it has done all I wanted one to do and I’m happy with it so far. You can double what I paid by ordering more motor and adding on from the load of available options such as fully enclosed heated hard cab with windshield wipers and stereo for listening while plowing snow. The Gator XUV’s are still more work oriented than they are for getting airborne and sideways but mine gets around nicely and rides smooth in the ruff with passenger plus a fair load of misc. in the cargo box.

I took a real interest in the new Gator, with that powerful motor (advertised) etc.. Then I found out it was a Chineese motor and I lost interest.

The smaller engine in my 625i is a Kawasaki FD620 at 617cc from the fine folks that did Pearl Harbor. I haven’t tried another rice burner since quickly trashing a couple Yamaha dirt bikes in the early 70’s. It sure would sound better with 74 cubic inches of good ole V-twin Harley Davidson but real class seems to be in short supply these days. I’ll have to get used to it till it’s paid for anyways. Ya reckon a 426 Hemi would be too much?

Kawasaki teryx. I have one and it was the best all purpose utv I could find. Runs 55 mph stock, can run more easily with acdi box. Hauls a ton. Very reliable. Great unit for all use.

Olefreak, you reminded me of a ball cap my dad used to wear. It read "Toyota" From the nice people who brought us Pearl Harbor. He is a WWII vet served in the Pacific, Leyte, Okinawa. Most of the big name side by sides are going to be Japaneese machines, as are the majority of 2 wheel street bikes. Recently we could point to Harley Davidson, & Victory motorcycles as American made. Now we can't say that about Victory any longer, nor can we say that about Polaris atv's and side by sides since their move to Mexico.

For me personally, I knew the Yamaha Rhino was made in Japan when I bought it, as well as the Yamaha Kodiak. Knew it going in, did some research, made the purchases. What bothered me about John Deere, I guess, was the idea that it was American. The Chineese made motor really turned me off. Perhaps it is a great motor, but I am at a point of being sick of finding nearly everything with a "Made in China" label attached.

2zuks, The Teryx looks really nice. They weren't out, or even rumored when I bought the Rhino in Dec 05, or I might have bought one. Drove Kawasaki Mule 550 for years. The Mule 610 just wasn't enough of an improvement for me to spend the $.

Ya, the teryx has reservoir shocks for pretty decent suspension for a stock machine. The 750 makes enough power to haul anything you want, plus is fast enough to be alot of fun. It isn't quite as fast as the rzr, and some might outhaul it, but it seemed to be the best balance I could find that would do everything well! I work hard with mine on the property, and load it up and take it to the trails and dunes. Always handles whatever I throw at it. Lol

Why worry about gas milage on your ATV. You haul it on a trailer pulled by a 4WD truck that might get 10 mpg for how many miles to ride ATV trails.

In most counties here in Indiana they are legal to ride on all county roads with nothing more than a sticker and registration from the DNR which you have to ride state property anyhow. Mine as with most others around here get as many or more road miles than trail miles. That being said, I have never cared about mileage on an atv.

As for the Teryx, a guy I used to work with has one and so does his dad. They both run them and work them hard and both are very happy with them.

That's great. It is illegal in Georgia except for tractors and other self-propelled farm machinery. They are allowed on any road except interstates. A 15 y.o. kid recently got killed when his 70 y.o. neighbor, talking on her cell phone, rear ended him. She said she thought he was going faster than what he was. Sad.

markc - Rice? Good eatin but rather not ride it. It’s bout impossible to find pure USA made. My beloved Mopars have had Canada or Mexico stickers on parts since the early eighties. Still don’t like it.

Pop did N. Africa to Italy to France and finally Germany before coming home in 1946. One of his brothers was in some of the really deep s#+! in the Pacific. My favorite way worn out hat now retired to the wall is a “Kill ‘em All - Let God Sort ‘em Out “.
