I have thought about it in my Super Redhawk.   Used to shoot cap and ball revolvers, so I might shoot some black powder cartridges for old times sake.  I think I will wait until my new Redhawk is on the grungy side, internally that is, then fire off a box of the old smokies, then take apart and clean.

Blackhawks and .32 cal single sixes work great with black powder. I mostly use black in my 44 spl. Blackhawk, and the little vaquarito just loves those 32 cal. big lube bullets over a case full of FFFg.

As for double action revolvers and black, I wouldn't. They aren't designed to deal with powder fouling and will get sticky in a hurry. And are a pain to clean. But the single actions? Go ahead, they work great!

I read about guys that do, I don't. I used to shoot black powder revolvers back in the day. Of course you had to clean them well after shooting. I just don't feel like increasing the potential of internal corrosion with my guns when you don't have to. Yes, I realize you can just clean them well. Even with that the residue seems to creep about everywhere.

A while back a guy had a 45 Blackhawk for sale. I didn't really need it but was thinking about it. When I saw he fired a fair amount of BP rounds in it, that was enough to hold off.

I've tried a couple sets through mine with 255gr LSWC almost like a Keith style bullet.  Worked pretty well, although if I do any more, I will definitely be adding an over powder .0125 card to keep from some lead spitting around the forcing cone.  Had pretty good power too.  8)

we might ought to experiment a little. who knows what powder yu be able to get in 10 yrs? a lot of guys have ruger old armys, and id treat your blackhawk the same, remover cylinder and other parts and grips. dunk, scrub, flush, with hot water, repeat several times and when dry flush action with penetrateing oil if yu dont want to dissemble.

750 fps 15' from the muzzle of a 4 3/4" .357 barrel with a 158 gr rnfp bullet.  I used FFF because that's what I have.  Bought 2 stainless steel Vaqueros on purpose, pull the grips, and cylinder and put it all in the dishwasher after a hot water rinse in the sink.

Black powder is a natural with single actions.  The big puff of smoke, the black powder smell, the different recoil and sound, it's all good!  The only downside it that you gotta clean right away, but just pour yourself a glass of scotch, put on some good music from the 60's and 70's, and make the process enjoyable.
