sticky 33 Win
« on: December 27, 2003, 08:53:02 AM »
On my '86 Winchester sometimes the bolt locks closed after firing.  No--its not an overload.  Am way under max load and slugged the barrel, had a check up at a local gunsmith.  With 5 sample rounds he could not get it to stick.  Anyone got any ideas?  If you wiggle the lever and tap the butt on the ground, it will suddenly come unstuck....sometimes.

clodbuster - what do your cases look like after firing, and specifically, what do the 'stuck' cases look like?  You mentioned that your reloads were way under max - could they be so far under that you get 'blowback' running down the side of some cases, causing them to stick in the chamber a bit.  If all you have to do is wiggle the lever a bit, and not use a cleaning rod to get a stuck case out of the chamber, it sounds like there is some crud holding the case in for a bit until it cools off enough to almost drop out by itself.  Mikey.
