not really a fan of ruger myself but it looks as though it is priced well. you could just go with something proven like a springfield and have some cash left over.

I'm not a fan of Ruger center fire pistols, but, I'm thinking that Ruger has got a winner on their hands this time. There are no secrets as to how to make a 1911 pattern gun work. Attention to detail in the manufacturing process and good materials are basically what's required. The Ruger P-1911 introduced this year has all the features of the Springfield "Loaded" at a lower price point. Add to that, manufactured in the good old USA, makes it a serious contender in the 1911 market. IMO I would certainly consider it over the South American and Asian models, if I were in the market for another 1911 platform pistol. I'm sure it'll go for a bit less than the $799 suggested retail. Sounds like a bargain to me!

I had a bad experince with a Springfield. I got it used , The factory bbl and bushing were poor. The bbl looked like micro grooving , it had grooves and lands but they were so poor in quality it would not shoot well. It shoots well now with a kart bbl and bushing. It was a poor job of QC for sure. The frame was from SA . Why support off shore workers ?

Ruger does manufacture one hell of a revolver. I own mostly ruger revolvers since the early 70's. I've ran stout loads thru my super blackhawk that most other revolvers couldn't handle.

I am in the market for a 1911 in stainless and i'm looking for my miss april gun purchase. I may look for a gun rag write up.

I have had two new colt 1911 from the late 70's & 80's plus one new springer that stove piped 1rd per mag(bad extractor) possibly me or my fault on the springer. Now my history shows i wasn't all that exceited about the new remington 1911 but i waited to see and i'm not that all impressed with what i have heard about it so far. I liked the astra 1911 manufactured by the swiss but the cost is a deal killer. They seemed to be higher than they first said price wise. Now with the new ruger 1911 who knows yet but time will tell. I'll wait till i hear some test results. I'm not sure if its forged steel or not yet i haven't read anything about it.

Cost wise i think the springfield armory is a front runner with its forged frame and slide. Again with any new 1911 we may have to get it working properly its not a given it will work right out of the box.(new) I'm at 25% with the chances of getting a good new one with 3 bad ones and 1 good one so far(new).

Now my new AO has an investment casted frame. So far its a great shooter and dependable right out of the box with no break in time. I do prefer a forged frame and slide because i /we do shoot them alot between the 3 to 4 of us when we get together to shoot. But so far the new AO with its investment frame seems ok too.

It looks very nice, and always wanted a 1911 in 45 ACP maybe someday.

I have a Ruger Old Army, Blackhawk and Single Six which all functions perfectly, so I love Rugers.

The frames are cast & the slides are forged. They have a intro video on shooting USA & maybe ruger web site also.

ruger needs to get off their butts and get guns out there....i still havent seen the sr 556 in a gunstore. my impression is they arent making alot of them. if they arent on the shelf, you arent going to sell them.

To see the ruger SR1911 in action go to you tube and search for hickok45 then look for his ruger SR1911 video. He test fires the snots out of it with on his video's i believe there are more than one of his video's on it. CZY.

I think its my next new 1911 in stainless i'm glad i waited. I didn't really want a 3rd SA 1911a1. In the past i chose the CZ pistols in all my 9mm's. I didn't like the look of the other ones in 9mm. But a 1911 look is mainly the same in 1911's right.

I just found out its an investment casted frame and a forged slide. Here we go again. It depends on how you feel about investment casting. I guess if its done right its ok. I believe that ruger has a lot of experience with investment casting.

I have to say my new Auto-Ordnance army ww2 copy thats been flawless for 500rds+ now kind of set the bar kind of high even with its entry level price of just $389. I have no clue as to why the other new 1911 manufacturers are entering the market with there prices so much higher? There trying to make a killing with a new unproven different to them, product line, before it gets a gun rag report or even any of us testing it out. Its greed when they do this.

Its manufactured in Wooster,Mass. and it has an investment casted 4140 steel frame. I'm not sure if AO purchases the frame or manufactures it themselves. Its getting really hard here in the US to operate foundery's.

I'm leaning towards the ruger SR1911 now. It looks great with some goodies already on it.

We did have one of the most modern foundry's in Bridgeport,Ct and its been sitting idle for many years now(castiron). Its been said its one of the most modern foundry's this side of the mississippi river. They also had Carpenter steel there too which moved out. They even had a brass foundry there too which is gone. I think there still in NH.

I guess i wouldnt worry to much when it comes to this one. the design is a 100 years old and i think most of the bugs should be out of it by now.

I also believe Ruger has been making 1911 parts for other manufacturers for years. That and Ruger's top notch CS and the approximate $600 street cost makes for an attractive purchase. It probably will not be the best base for a project gun, but for someone that wants a dependable, affordable stainless 1911, it should work just fine.

For a project 1911 the chinese norinco is hard to beat with its forged frame and slide manufactured from our scrap rail road track. (kidding) But the steel is tough to work with its that good.

I may try a SR1911 if the indoor range offers it in a loaner to try it out. I think we need to move quickly before the demand drives the cost up more or Ruger raises there price. These newly offered entry level 1911's seem to go up in cost very quickly lately.

I have looked into these new Rugers, and I decided to buy a Kimber Custom II instead. Not stainless, but with walnut stocks and a second mag for $769. I didn't think it was too bad, and the Kimber's I have shot are very nice. Maybe I'll put the Ruger on next year's wish list??

When I was working at an indoor range in Tucson, AZ; a customer blew up a Springfield with a bad reload. He sent it to Springfield stating it had been a bad reload and they still repaired it for free. Good customer service is getting hard to find, just something to think about when buying.

Bought a new Colt Rail Gun in January. About 1500 rounds so far. Not a single problem of any kind.
That being said, if I saw a new Ruger for sale I would have it immediately.

I wish ruger would concentrate on their revolvers. The 1911 and SR556, I think, are attempts to diversify that take away from their bread and butter single and double action revolvers. (Think GM over diversification)

There at the bottom of the nitch in the 1911 prices. Its been said before that the average prices on a decent 1911 shooter, lets say a good entry level begins around $500 and goes up to $1,200. With a decent 1911 at $1,200. Slowly the span of this price range has been going higher lately. At around $500 + or- its the rockiland armory ect. and at the high end its the colts, kimbers and springers ect. I know there are many others but my one typing finger gets sore to list them.

I'm looking/browsing for a new 1911 in stainless and the new ruger just maybe it.

I know its confusing to look at all the 1911's and i do change my mind at times too. But i would like to fill my gotta have list with the stainless and nickel finish 1911's soon. (ruger & RIA)

Your right my feelings exactly. Ruger models seem to come and go before I deceide to buy them. They seem to discontinue a lot of revolvers lately. I'd still like to see the 45 long colt in a super blackhawk, and the redhawks back in 357mag and in 41mag too. I wish they also offered the plain jane redhawk in 44mag with the 9 1/2'' barrel. I don't care for the larger framed super redhawk.

Overall the people at S&W are much smarter they still offer most of the revolvers they had for many years calling them there classics. There still selling too. Ruger should learn from this. Now i just jump ship and purchase what i want from who ever manufacturers it.

The Ruger looks like a good gun and I may have bought one if they were around 15yrs ago when I bought my Kimber Classic Model. I have been very happy with the Kimber. It is a 'first model' Classic that is the no firing pin safety, series 70, type. As opposed to the newer ones. I only paid 575.00 for it back then. I did a search yesterday on these and people are selling them in good condition used for 900+ dollars. I guess the 'Classics' are considered more valuble for whatever reason.
I wonder how many used 1911s on the market will increase in value as mine has in the last 15yrs?
