Aluminum Replica Napoleon
« on: April 19, 2011, 01:56:35 PM »
I think it's commendable that Steen Cannon & Ordnance Works sold this replica to the club responsible for the upkeep of the Boyd County Civil War Memorial for cost, and also vowed to maintain the piece for as long as it's displayed there. Both the tube & carriage look great, and I'm sure that Mr. Steen's company has this non-firing cannon scaled to a tee, but I also need to say that I've got one minor criticism: In my opinion, their efforts at recreating an authentic looking antique bronze patina fell slightly short of perfect; they would have done well to call in Zulu and his wife as consultants on the painting.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Cannoneer,
I greatly appreciate the plug!
I showed this to my wife and she loved the attention.
Thanks for remembering that she helped me with the bronze patina paint job on my 1/2 scale 10" Spanish mortar.

I think its cool that SOME group too the initiative and put it on display!

And, better a replica out there in the elements than an original!

I agree with you, Tim. It also seems like a great idea for any organization that wants to display a CW artillery piece, but doesn't have the big bucks it would take to buy a reproduction (it sounds like a good alternative to fiberglass models).
