For years I used the Lee universal expander Die on Bottle neck cases with cast bullets, as with just about everything I have used of Lees, it worked OK, but there are better tools for the job. In February I decided to up grade to the Lyman M dies. And this is one of the items that are well worth the money.
Improved accuracy, and no more over flared cases.
I think you get in the habit of this or that is good enough, and stick with what you know.
This is one item I am very glad I up graded to.

 Well not only the reasons you've found, but if a person loads blackpowder the M die can be adjusted to work very well for a powder compression die.

And if you have a lathe you can make new inserts for either of those dies to do lots of things. Powder compression, special neck size, flare, neck up from one caliber to another, etc.

For loading cast bullets I normally see what size my mould throws and make an expander exactly that size. With springback I have .001" neck tension, perfect for cast bullets so the case doesn't resize them. (This assumes the rifle will take a bullet that size of course)

Hello, Also, with lathe..you can make expander plugs with gentle taper instead of abrupt shoulder..nice for gently expanding brass for cast.

The M dies is much more precise. Instead of simply jamming a cone shaped expander into the case mouth, it aligns the flare to be parallel with the case, and allows almost unlimited adjustment.
